Memories Of C.H. Daniels School Reunions

July 14, 2021 - As the days come and go in July 2021, the memories of C. H. Daniels High reunions stay on the mind of many of the alumni throughout the states. In 2010 the new committee of the school reunion brought back the reunions to the town after a few years absence.

It was a good time to celebrate years leading to the anniversary of the closing of Daniels in 1968 as the last senior class graduated. However, the class of 1969 were juniors and wanted to be included even though they graduated from the other school.

Mother's Day Tribute by Joan Garrett

May 11, 2020 - Women who are mothers, step-mothers, grandmothers, god-mothers, adopted mothers, you all deserve to be honored for Mothers Day. Articles have been written for the ones I paid tribute to this week, and now my comforting words go out to everyone of the Mothers in the community. Please continue to be the mother to care for your children and provide service to the community and churches. May your life be prosperous and healthy for many years in the future.

Mother's Day Spotlight: Kathy Mosby and Rhonda Page

May 9, 2020 - Kathy Mosby, a graduate of Daniels High School in the early 60s, is an ambitious lady. She moved to Houston and worked at one of the oil and gas companies. After retirement, she became a fashion consultant and held many fashion shows for organizations as well as owned a boutique for women. Wanting to serve her community in her own caring ways, she opened her first senior assisted living home, which has now grown into several homes today. Kathy, known by hometown people as Sue Ann Eaden, has been a caring person as well as mother and grandmother.

A Special Aunt

May 8, 2020 - I am sure everyone has a special aunt to brag on this week of Mother’s Day. I will do the same for my Aunt Hazel Garrett Brown. Auntie has reached that Golden Old Age where the family must be careful with her. I think she is 90 years old. She is the only child remaining of Edgar and Sally Ann Garrett who were prominent citizens of Center and members of St. Paul Church before their demise. I always wanted to be like my Aunt Hazel. She worked as a hairdresser in a shop in Center for many years before moving to Longview Texas after her marriage to Prentiss Brown.

The Swindell Triplets

May 7, 2020 - Known as three Ds, Donna, Dedra and Dadra have been active most of their lives. They were young in Center when their mother passed away. They were raised by their dad and by other siblings assisting in Houston. These three grew up to be fine women. They were active in sports while in school and beyond even learning how to ride motorcycles. The three went into the cosmetology business where they were successful for many years, winning many awards while attending national shows. Many relatives have joined them in this environment.

A Special Tribute: In Memory of Clifton Garrett, Sr.

May 6, 2020 - Clifton Garrett, Sr. was born and raised in East Texas before joining the Army. He married his neighbor upon returning to his family's new location in Center, Texas in the mid-forties. He was married for 43 years when his wife Portia passed in 1990 and he lived 21 years afterwards with his daughter when he became disabled in the last three years of his life. Joan gives tribute to her father on the anniversary of his death nine years ago in Houston. Memories of a life well spent will always be with the family.
