June 28, 2019 - Please remember to register for the Daniels School Reunion. It is not too late, A notice was sent to indicate that early registrants will receive a token for a great effort to participate before June 23. As always noted, this event is for anyone who register, not just the graduates of Daniels class of 68 and those who were juniors. They appreciate those who did make the effort, and will see you there.
June 18, 2019 - Rain did not stop the gathering of families of descendents of Edgar and Sally Ann Garrett over the weekend. Edgar and Sallie are both deceased with only one daughter of six children still living. The families had traveled from Houston, Beaumont, Orange, Tyler, and Longview to join those who lived in Center to participate in two family reunions.
March 29, 2019 - National Women's History Month is approaching its end. It was a month long celebration of recognizing women who have made a contribution to cultural and society. Several names were written in previous articles but time did not permit to complete the list of women who mean a lot to the community.
The following names are of those known and others presented in the books written by Dr. Charles Tatum, a former resident of Center.
March 17, 2019 - There were many African American Educators who taught in the early years of Center's schools in the town and in the rural areas. Too many to name all of them. This Salute goes out to them this month of March which has been designated at National Women's History Month.
March 17, 2019 - An African American Woman who sat on the City Council of Center was Mrs. Gretchen McNealy. She served for over twenty years. The story of Gretchen's getting to live in Center, Texas was no accident. She was a relative of Mrs.
March 13, 2019 - Have you ever seen a woman in her eighties move around like Mrs. Lucille Wade Cloudy? Well, you should see her at church, or ask her to go out of town with you, or see what is planted in her garden. She is slowing down a bit but she has been a very active woman.
March 11, 2019 - While writing about women who have made an impact in the community, the Mother of all times can not be forgotten: Mrs. Ruby Lister Biggers.
