Plan While You Can Campaign

December 15, 2015 AUSTIN — In an effort to save lives this holiday season, TxDOT is launching the “Plan While You Can” campaign that urges drivers to plan ahead for a sober ride when holiday celebrations involve alcohol. The campaign introduces the “Plan While You Can” interactive dodgeball game to show the effects of alcohol on a driver’s response time. During last year’s holiday season (Dec. 1, 2014 - Jan. 1, 2015), there were 2,412 alcohol-related traffic crashes in Texas, resulting in 190 serious injuries and 110 fatalities.

December 7, 2015 AUSTIN – The Texas Department of Transportation’s “Plan While You Can” campaign urges party goers to plan for a sober ride this holiday season. The campaign runs through Jan. 1, 2016 and coincides with an increase in DUI patrols and enforcement.

Construction Begins on Starr Avenue in Nacogdoches, Construction Plans for Nine-County Lufkin District

December 2, 2015 - Work is beginning this week on a $1.4 million construction project in Nacogdoches County located on Starr Avenue (FM 1878) that will add two additional lanes of travel and widen sidewalks.

Crews continue to relocate utilities with work scheduled between North Street and Clark Boulevard on Starr Avenue. The project will include widening the roadway from two to four lanes. Concrete curb and gutter and widened sidewalks will also be included and traffic signals at North Street and Mound Street will be replaced.

TxDOT Reports of Projects in Shelby County, Other Lufkin District Counties

November 10, 2015  LUFKIN – Utility crews continue working to relocate utilities ahead of highway construction on US 59 and Loop 224 in Nacogdoches.

Webber, contractor for the project, continues to work on the US 59/SL 224 westbound exit ramp as utility crews prepare nearby right of ways that will signal the advance of the project. Contractors are also preparing to begin construction on raised medians on US 59 for 1.2 miles south of SL 224 as part of the ongoing construction project.

TxDOT Maintenance and Construction Updates, Oct 26-30

Week of October 26-30

October 26, 2015 - The nine-county Lufkin District is busy completing projects as well as continuing other major improvements on many roadways throughout the district.

Motorists have seen changes daily in the $58 million construction project on SL 287 at US 59. Webber, contractor for the project, will hang beams over the east and westbound main lanes in coming days, weather permitting. The work will be scheduled during night hours and announcements will be made once the time is determined.
