June 22, 2015 - LUFKIN – The bridge/overpass at FM 2021 at Redland over US 59 is scheduled to open to traffic this week once paving is completed, weather permitting.
June 18, 2015 - LUFKIN – The remnants of Tropical Storm Bill made its way through the Lufkin District Thursday with several of the district’s nine counties reporting trees down and flooded roadways that had motorists looking for alternate routes of travel.
Maintenance crews were busy Wednesday night and into Thursday monitoring rising water and removing debris and fallen trees. Some roads were closed and barriers set to turn motorists around while others roads were reduced to a single lane of travel.
June 7, 2015 - LUFKIN – TxDOT projects each summer include seal coating pavement surfaces and motorists are beginning to see work crews perform this annual task that is an important part of TxDOT’s preventative maintenance program.
A seal coat is an application of a layer of asphalt binder covered with a layer of aggregate applied to an existing surface. The yearly application cost $180 million statewide and helps maintain the 186,600 lane miles of roadway.
May 29, 2015 - While recent rain storms have slowed many TxDOT projects, with just a little bit of early summer sunshine many are beginning to move forward.
In Angelina County, three major construction projects continue with two nearing completion and one just beginning.
May 26, 2015 - Overnight storms Monday produced more rainfall that resulted in flooded roadways across Lufkin’s nine-county district. Crews worked through the night in some counties to clear debris and monitor damaged or flooded roadways.
May 22, 2015 (Lufkin) – Shannon Ramos, P.E., has recently been named as Nacogdoches Area Engineer for the Lufkin District. In her new role, Shannon will head the Nacogdoches Area Office which oversees all construction and maintenance activities in Nacogdoches, Sabine, Shelby, and San Augustine counties.
Shannon began her career with TxDOT in January 2003 for the Lufkin District’s Consultant Management Section after her December 2002 graduation from Texas A&M University.
As spring gives way to summer, TxDOT maintenance and construction crews are gearing up for some of the busiest workdays of the year.
New projects are being planned and sealcoating applications will begin that will resurface roadways throughout the district. Motorists should be prepared for delays in construction and maintenance areas and remain alert to slow-moving, stopped traffic or lane closures as they travel the nine-county Lufkin District.
April 29, 2015 - Showing how even the smallest trash can add up to a very big mess, the Texas Department of Transportation Wednesday hosted an event on the Capitol lawn to launch several new public service announcements as part of its iconic “Don’t mess with Texas” anti-litter campaign. The first round of PSAs will feature TxDOT Executive Director LtGen Joe Weber, USMC (Ret), with subsequent announcements showcasing the sounds of country music legend Willie Nelson.
