January 12, 2024 – With winter weather predicted to move into East Texas in coming days, TxDOT wants to remind drivers of how to maneuver the roadways should freezing precipitation occur.

TxDOT crews in the nine-county Lufkin District began Friday pre-treating Tier I roadways (US 59 and US 259) and bridges and overpasses. Crews will continue monitoring and re-treat if necessary.

If East Texas experiences freezing rain or snow on the roadways, drivers are urged to stay home, if possible. If you must drive, follow these tips that will help you arrive safely.
