22 Derelict Vessels set for Removal from Texas Waters

September 6, 2023 - Today, Texas Land Commissioner Dawn Buckingham, M.D. is pleased to announce that the Texas General Land Office Oil Spill division will partner with the Gulf of Mexico Alliance (GOMA) to remove 22 derelict vessels from Texas coastal waters.  More than $10 million in funding awarded to GOMA will help support healthy marine and coastal environments by removing abandoned or derelict vessels across the Gulf coast.

She is considered, by many, to be one of America's greatest folk art painters. But the real story is about when she earned that honor. Grandma Moses didn't start painting until she was 78 years old!

Noble Children’s Services New Member Ribbon Cutting

September 13, 2023 - The Shelby County Chamber Ambassadors are excited to invite the public to a New Member Ribbon Cutting for our new member, Noble Children’s Services on Wednesday, September 13th at 11am. Noble Children’s Services is located at 1306 Louisiana Street.

Elizabeth Andrusick, Executive Director opened Noble Children’s Services 13 years ago. She has an office in Tyler as well as the Center office.

September 5, 2023 - In 1950 at the age of 18, I hitch-hiked to Springfield, Missouri with three dollars in my pocket.  I persuaded the College to let me enroll with the promise to pay as I could for a room in the dormitory.  I was given a room shared with Don Walker of Tyler, Texas.  It was complete with a lavatory, a Panel-Ray Heater a washcloth, a towel, a broom, and two bunk beds.

I must begin today with an apology. These little daily thoughts, in addition to being published on the Shelby County Today website, go out in hundreds of emails, many of them to people who are not fortunate enough to live in the great state of Texas. There's going to be some "Texas bragging" in this devotion, and so, to all those unfortunate readers out there, I offer my heartfelt apology.
