USDA Forest Service Invests in Restoring State and Private Forests in Southern Region

August 30, 2023 - The USDA Forest Service is investing in 18 projects in nine Southern states and Puerto Rico to restore forests across state and private lands.

These funded projects mark the first time the agency has made Landscape Scale Restoration program grants directly available to federally recognized tribes and Alaska Native Corporations to restore priority forest landscapes on tribal lands, including trust lands, reservation lands, and other lands owned by tribes.

Texas Land Management Agencies Encourage Texans to Prevent Wildfires During Dove Hunting Season

August 30, 2023 — During the upcoming dove hunting season, Texans are urged to help protect the lands and natural resources that we all love by being mindful of activities that may cause a wildfire.

Persistent triple-digit temperatures and minimal rainfall over the past two months have resulted in extremely dry vegetation across the state, which increases the likelihood of dangerous wildfires. Any outdoor activities that create heat or sparks can ignite dry vegetation and wildfire.

Shelby County Commissioner Dumpster Schedule

August 30, 2023 - During the current burn ban, Shelby County Commissioners are allowing the use of their dumpsters for household trash. This is only during the burn ban and is not in any way meant to replace regular household trash service.

Prohibited items aren’t allowed, such as, tires, paint, batteries, etc.

Residents can only utilize the dumpster of the precinct where they live. Each commissioner yard may not have the same hours. Review the following information to determine when you can access the dumpster in your area:

August 28, 2023 - On May 21, 2023, I fell and broke my hip, after a local dog attacked one of my leashed dogs. We were on our way to Joaquin City Park, and I fell behind Feed Trough Cafe. To make matters worse, I feel on a fire ant mound, and they were none too pleased. I was in a lot of pain and couldn’t move. Within seconds, people from the park and the cafe came to help. Someone called my wife, another good soul grabbed the leashes holding my two dogs, and one sweet lady went to get the mayor, who is an experienced EMT and ambulance driver.
