2023 DYB Regional World Series “Thank You”

August 23, 2023 - The DYB World Series was hosted July 19-23 at the Center Park and Softball Complexes. We had 50 teams in 5 divisions compete for a chance to be WS Champions.  When the final play came to an end, the 5 champions were: T-ball – Bossier City, LA; 6u Coach Pitch – Montgomery American, AL; 7u Coach Pitch – Shreveport, LA; 9u – Laurel Jones County, MS; 11u – Southeastern, AL. Center, TX was Runner-Up in 11u.

August 23, 2023 - When is a bicycle path not a bicycle path? That is the question that my wife had to decide a number of years ago in Colorado. I had taken a new job in 1974 with an insurance company whose home office was Littleton, Colorado. We moved there in January of that year, native Texans in a foreign country, whom the natives teased about our “accent.” I never felt that we had any detectible accent, but the Colorado citizens felt differently.

TxDOT Resurfacing Project Beginning in Various Counties

August 22, 2023 - A pre-construction meeting was held at the Lufkin District Office on Tuesday signaling the beginning of a new construction project. Crews are setting barricades and signage that will include roadway resurfacing in several district locations. Work is expected to begin August 29, 2023 with completion for this project set for May 2024, weather permitting.

Drone and Firefighting Aircraft Have Near Miss on Recent Wildfire

August 22, 2023 - On Friday, a helicopter delivering water to the 150-acre Barth Fire in Caldwell County almost collided with a drone that came within feet of the aircraft.

Drones are a serious safety hazard for both the aviation resources as well as the firefighters on the ground and can cause a serious or fatal accident if they collide with firefighting aircraft.

August 22, 2023 - Good Morning. It's Tuesday, August 22.

Last Friday night, a good friend of mine went on to Glory.  Her name was Dorothy, but everyone called her Dot.  She was 96 years young.  And if we had to find one word to describe her, it would be the word . . . JOY.  She always had a welcoming smile, a twinkle in her eye, even in times of trial and tragedy, even on days of challenge and change.
