DPS Offers Tips and Resources Ahead of New School Year

August 13, 2022 – As the new school year nears, the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) reminds drivers to use extra caution in and around school zones and neighborhoods. This includes knowing the Texas laws about driving near stopped school buses and not using cell phones when you’re behind the wheel. It also means utilizing the many safety resources available to parents, school staff and students.

New Chronic Wasting Disease Surveillance, Containment Zones Proposed in Five Counties

August 13, 2022 — Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission will consider proposed Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD) surveillance and containment zones during its upcoming meeting, Aug. 24-25.

If passed, these zones would enhance efforts to monitor and contain CWD in portions of Bandera, Duval, Jim Wells, Kimble, Live Oak, McMullen, Medina and Uvalde counties ahead of the upcoming hunting season.

August 12, 2022 - Good Morning! It’s Friday, August 12.

I've adjusted the Daily Devotion schedule from Monday - Saturday to Monday - Friday. Sunday, for ministers, is the busiest day of the week, so the new schedule gives me a "day of rest" each Saturday. Some people call Saturday the "Sabbath" - a word that literally means "rest". We see this word in the New Testament with the Greek Sabato, in Spanish with Sabado, and in Hebrew with Shabbat.

Millions of Historic Oil, Gas Production Records Now Online on Railroad Commission Website

August 11, 2022 – In yet another move to enhance transparency and make Railroad Commission documents more widely available to the public, the agency recently completed a project to place all historic oil and gas production records online.

The Historical Imaged Annual Production Records database includes oil production dating back to 1931 and gas production going back to 1937. More than 1,300 rolls of microfilm containing about 2.2 million images housed in RRC’s Central Records were digitized for the project.

Shelby County Resident Thanks Emergency Responders

August 11, 2022 - On Tuesday, August 9, 2022, a tree fell over a power line and the downed line ignited a fire on FM 138 near Arcadia. We were fortunate that the fire was spotted early and very grateful to all of those who assisted in averting a potential disaster.

Application Period for Community Wildfire Defense Grant Now Open

August 10, 2022 — Eligible communities in Texas can apply now for a federal grant administered by Texas A&M Forest Service to plan for and mitigate against risks created by wildfire.

The Community Wildfire Defense Grant offers financial assistance to at-risk local communities for the development of Community Wildfire Protection Plans and associated mitigation projects. The program is authorized in Public Law 117-58, commonly referred to as the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act.
