Service Determines Triangle Pigtoe Does Not Warrant Endangered Species Act Protection

May 10, 2021 - Based on genetic studies and reviews of the best available science, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has determined the triangle pigtoe does not warrant protection under the Endangered Species Act (ESA). Today’s decision, also known as a 12-month finding, is the result of a taxonomic study indicating the East Texas mussel is not a distinct species.

Texas Shifts from COVID-19 Vaccine Allocation to Ordering

Sufficient supply means providers may order vaccine as needed

May 6, 2021 - The Texas Department of State Health Services will no longer allocate COVID-19 vaccine to providers on a weekly basis. Now that the supply of COVID-19 vaccine is regularly exceeding demand, DSHS will fill vaccine orders from providers as they come in and ship vaccine from the DSHS Pharmacy or place orders with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on a daily basis.

Nichols Requests Applications for Texas Armed Services Scholarship

May 6, 2021 - Today, Senator Robert Nichols (R-Jacksonville) request qualified students to apply for a Texas Armed Services Scholarship.

"This scholarship is a way to encourage and reward students interested in military service," said Nichols. "It provides a unique opportunity for students to pursue higher education and take advantage of preparation from the Reserve Officers' Training Corps (ROTC) programs at universities in Texas."
