DETCOG Regional Housing Authority Draft Annual Plan Now Available

April 20, 2021 - A draft copy of the Deep East Texas Council of Governments Regional Housing Authority Annual Plan for its 2021-2022 U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), Housing Choice Voucher Program (Section 8 Rental Assistance) is now available for review and comment. This plan contains goals and strategies to promote adequate and affordable housing for low-income families in the Deep East Texas region. Input and support are solicited from all communities.

April 20, 2021 - Shelby County Outreach Ministries and its Meals on Wheels program would like to thank everyone who purchased a BBQ plate for the fundraiser. Because of your donations, the fundraiser was a remarkable success. 

Your contributions help us continue to provide food for homebound senior citizens in Shelby County as well as check on them to make sure they are doing well. If you would like to contribute to Meals on Wheels, call us at 598-7768.

Eastern District of Texas Commemorates the 40th Anniversary of National Crime Victims’ Rights Week

April 20, 2021 – The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Texas joins communities nationwide in commemorating the 40th anniversary of National Crime Victims’ Rights Week (NCVRW) from April 18–24, 2021. This year’s theme, Support Victims. Build Trust. Engage Communities, emphasizes the importance of leveraging community support to help victims of crime.

Joaquin ISD Ag. Mechanics Projects on Display at Grill Fest

April 19, 2021 - The Joaquin Ag. Mechanic Department would like to invite Shelby county residents to Grill Fest. This event will be held at the Shelby County Expo Center on April 24th. We will have projects on display that have been built by Joaquin Ag. Mechanic students. We have had a very productive year and would like for Shelby county residents to see some of what the students at Joaquin ISD are capable of doing. All projects will be open for bids. Soil and Water Stewardship Week Highlights Texas Land Stewardship

April 19, 2021 – Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) has partnered with the Texas State Soil and Water Conservation Board (TSSWCB), Association of Texas Soil & Water Conservation Districts, Texas A&M Forest Service, Texas Wildlife Association and Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association to highlight Soil and Water Stewardship Week. The week is centered on the importance of voluntary land stewardship in Texas. The statewide campaign runs April 25 through May 2 and the focus this year is “Healthy Forests, Healthy Communities”.
