April 8, 2021 - Memberships into the Sheriff’s Association of Texas (SAT) are being mailed out through their headquarters in Austin. The SAT is one of the oldest law enforcement associations in the nation. The Sheriffs’ Association of Texas met for the first time on August 14, 1874, in the courthouse in Corsicana, Navarro County, Texas. The meeting was called to order by Sul Ross, Sheriff of McLennan County, who later became a notable part of Texas history.

April 6, 2021 - “Earlier today, districts experienced connectivity issues with the STAAR Online Testing Platform (SOTP). We posted updates to the STAAR Assessment Management System dashboard every 10 minutes to keep districts apprised of the progress in resolving the issue.

“The three STAAR tests affected were Grade 4 writing, Grade 7 writing, and English I. This was the first of five days that students were eligible to take one of these three tests online.

April 6, 2021 - Texas A&M Forest Service has opened a single engine air tanker base in Alpine, Texas to assist with wildfire response across the state.

Persistent drought, cured grasses, above normal temperatures and elevated to critical fire weather will produce conditions conducive to increased fire activity from the Big Bend region to the Midland/Odessa area on Tuesday and Wednesday. This same area will likely experience consecutive days of strong drying in vegetation through the end of the week, resulting in critically dry fuels for the weekend.
