USDA Reopens Signup for Coronavirus Food Assistance Program 2

April 16, 2021 – The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Farm Service Agency (FSA) announced that signup has reopened for the Coronavirus Food Assistance Program 2 (CFAP 2) as part of the Pandemic Assistance for Producers initiative. The initial CFAP 2 signup ended on Dec. 11, 2020, but USDA has reopened sign-up for CFAP 2 for at least 60 days beginning April 5, 2021, for producers to apply or make modifications to existing CFAP 2 applications.

April 16, 2021 - The boarding house on Wettermark street near the campus of Stephen F. Austin State College was the setting for many a juvenile prank during the fall of 1955. I was a freshman student at the Nacogdoches college living in the large, two-story house with eight other male students at the time. More time was invested in playing pranks on each other than in studying the expensive courses required for a degree.

JR Smith Building Receiving Remodel by Family Returning to Shelby County (Updated)

April 15, 2021 - Johnstone Financial is relocating from the suburbs of Portland, Oregon to Center, Texas. The JR Smith Building on San Augustine Street on the Shelby county square is being renovated and occupied by Johnstone Brokerage Services (JBS), a FINRA member broker-dealer. The brokerage services business provides client support for annuity investments and mutual funds. Most of the work performed by JBS is back office, administrative, regulatory, and supervisory in nature.

April 16, 2021 - During the pandemic Fannie Brown Booth Memorial Library staff is keeping the library open to provide important services during this challenging time. Except for the mandatory lockdown period, the library has remained open to patrons to check out books, conduct research and use computers. Library staff Sandra Davis, Shawn Lowater and Cassey Neal are dedicated to serving patrons with their library needs.

Shelby County Appraisal District Reminds Businesses to Render Their Taxable Property by April 15th

April 5, 2021 - If you own tangible personal property that is used to produce income, then a rendition must be filed with the Shelby County Appraisal District by April 15th.  Property owners who need more time to file their renditions may file a written request with the chief appraiser on or before April 15th to receive an automatic extension to May 15th or the next business day. The chief appraiser may also grant an additional 15 days after the postponed deadline, if necessary.

April 15, 2021 - We have less than 50 days left in the 87th legislative session and the pace is picking up rapidly. Just this week, the Senate unanimously passed the Texas Consumer Privacy Act Phase 1, a bill I authored to ensure that the data the state has on private citizens is protected. Protecting consumer privacy is a priority for the Senate this session and I was proud to author this bill and see it pass unanimously through the Senate. Now, on to the House!

NMC Recognized for Clinical Excellence in Patient Satisfaction, Wound Healing Rates

April 15, 2021 – The Wound Care Center at Nacogdoches Medical Center (NMC) has earned a Center of Distinction award by Healogics•, a national provider of advanced wound care services. The award recognizes NMC’s Wound Care Center for achieving outstanding clinical outcomes for twelve consecutive months, including patient satisfaction rates higher than 92 percent and a minimum wound healing rate of at least 92 percent within 28 median days to heal. There were 555 Centers eligible for the Center of Distinction award and 278 achieved the honor.
