TxDOT Lufkin District Updates and Plans for Coming Week

August 3, 2018 – The nine county Lufkin District has many work zones set up through construction and maintenance projects. Motorists are asked to respect TxDOT work zones, reduce speed to the posted suggested speed limit and stay alert for moving equipment and workers. It is illegal to remove or drive around a TxDOT traffic control device, including barrels or cones. Obey all traffic control including lead cars and flaggers throughout a work zone.

DSHS Promotes Awareness of Harmful Bacteria in Coastal Waters

August 2, 2018 - Warm weather in Texas brings a higher risk of marine water-related infections, including those caused by the Vibrio bacteria which are naturally found in coastal water. Most infections occur between May and October, when the warmer water temperatures in the Gulf of Mexico promote the growth of these bacteria. Texas has averaged 90 Vibrio infections per year for the last 10 years.

FSA County Committee Nomination Period Began June 15, Ends Aug 1

August 1, 2018 – Nacogdoches-Angelina-Trinity-San Augustine-Shelby County USDA Farm Service Agency (FSA) Executive Director Lance Jacobs, announced that the nomination period for local FSA county committees began on Friday, June 15, 2018.

"County Committees are unique to FSA and allow producers to have a voice on federal farm program implementation at the local level," said Jacobs.

FSA County Producers Have Until August 1 to Submit FSA County Committee Nominations

July 30, 2018 — The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Farm Service Agency (FSA) County Executive Director for Nacogdoches-Angelina-Trinity-San Augustine-Shelby County, Lance Jacobs, today reminded farmers and ranchers that they have until August 1, 2018, to nominate eligible candidates to serve on local FSA county committees.

Texas Longleaf Conservation Assistance Program Helps Acquire 5,500-acre Easement

July 27, 2018 - The Texas Longleaf Implementation Team (TLIT) has been operating in East Texas to accelerate the restoration of the longleaf pine ecosystem on private lands since 2013. The team consists of 14 state and federal conservation agencies, and private organizations including the National Wild Turkey Federation, The Nature Conservancy and the Texas Forestry Association. The Texas team operates with funding received with grants from the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation and International Paper’s Forestland Stewards Program.

US Forest Service Seeks Applicants for Recreation Advisory Committee

July 26, 2018 - The U.S. Forest Service is seeking nominations to fill four positions on the Southern Region Recreation Resource Advisory Committee to serve national forests across the Southeast. The committee is tasked with reviewing fee proposals for the forests in 13 southern states and Puerto Rico and recommending fee changes.
