300 Years of Plants on the Move in Texas

July 11, 2018 - The Southern Garden History Society, along with SFA Gardens, Friends of Historic Nacogdoches, Inc, and the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service will present 300 Years of Plants on the Move in Texas in historic Nacogdoches, Texas Friday and Saturday, October 5 & 6, 2018 to celebrate Texas’ Tricentennial in gardening with tours, lectures, a book signing, and a reception. 

Volunteer Host Families Needed for Next Weekend's Dixie Invitational World Series

July 11, 2018 - The primary job of a host family is to be a primary point of contact for a team/parent/coach. They will be part of the delegation to welcome teams at Friday's check in at the Civic Center and help them through the tournament. 

Some ideas include: attending games and cheering on your team when possible; staying in touch with parents/coaches; answering questions about places to eat, things to do, places to do laundry.

July 9, 2018 - Invasive brush can decrease forage productivity for livestock or decrease brush diversity valuable for wildlife habitat.  Most ranchers find themselves constantly considering options for brush management, weighing not only the cost and effectiveness, but also when they can find the time to complete the treatments.   As temperatures continue to climb across our area and the chances of rainfall seem to be weakening, it’s important to consider the effect this will have on any herbicide applications.

AG Paxton: 48 Texas Gas Stations Agree to Refund Consumers for Hurricane Harvey Price Gouging

July 5, 2018 – Attorney General Ken Paxton today announced that his Consumer Protection Division finalized settlements with 48 Texas gas stations accused of price gouging during the state of disaster declared for Hurricane Harvey.

Under separate agreements, 48 businesses will pay $166,592 in civil restitution to refund Texans who were charged exorbitant or excessive prices for gasoline. Most of the businesses that agreed to these Assurances of Voluntary Compliance (AVCs) operate gas stations in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.

July 4th Plans Should Include Mosquito Prevention

June 29, 2018 - With outdoor activities on the holiday calendar for millions of Texans next week, the Texas Department of State Health Services is reminding everyone to protect themselves from mosquito bites and the diseases they can bring.

The best thing people can do to protect themselves and their families from mosquito-borne diseases like West Nile and Zika is to use insect repellent every time they’re outside. Plus, recent rains across the state mean it’s an important time to dump out standing water around homes and businesses so mosquitoes can’t lay eggs.
