Forestry Agency Uses a Web Application to Support Economic Development in East Texas

June 22, 2018 Lufkin — Angelina Forest Products, LLC recently announced plans to open a $100 million sawmill in Lufkin, Texas.  The softwood mill is expected to be in place by spring of 2019, creating 100 full-time jobs and contributing $52 million to the Texas economy in its first year.

“We made the decision to build a mill in Lufkin for several reasons,” said Angelina Forest Products Executive Vice President Stephen Raley. “The area offers an abundance of sustainable forest resources as well as a talented workforce familiar with the industry.”

Farm Service Agency County Committee Nomination Period to Launch June 15

June 21, 2018 Nacogdoches – The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) encourages America’s farmers and ranchers to nominate candidates to lead, serve and represent their community on their local county committee. According to USDA’s Farm Service Agency (FSA) Nacogdoches-Angelina-Trinity-San Augustine-Shelby County Executive Director, Lance Jacobs, FSA will accept nominations for county committee members beginning Friday, June 15, 2018.

Shelby Soil, Water Conservation District Natural Resources/Agriculture Scholarship Award

June 20, 2018 - This year the Shelby Soil & Water Conservation District will be awarding a $1,000 scholarship. The scholarship recipient will receive $500 for the fall 2018 semester and another $500 for the spring 2019 semester. The Shelby SWCD Scholarship is open to college students who are working toward a degree in the natural resources or agricultural field. We will be looking at individuals who meet the following qualifications:   

DPS Ramping Up Move Over/Slow Down Enforcement

June 19, 2018 Lufkin – The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) is beginning enforcement efforts across the state focusing specifically on violations of the state’s Move Over/Slow Down law. These periodic enforcement operations by DPS Troopers are planned throughout the year at various locations in Texas, with several operations planned in June. One of those operations will take place in Lufkin District throughout the day on Wednesday, June 20. The Department of Transportation will be participating in a non-enforcement capacity.
