June 6, 2018 - I want to thank everyone who voted for and supported me during the recent Justice of the Peace election. I am so thankful to be able to continue to serve in such a caring community, and will strive to handle all my duties in a professional and compassionate manner. Sabine-Angelina Resource Advisory Committee to Meet

June 5, 2018 - The Sabine-Angelina Resource Advisory Committee will discuss, recommend and approve new Title II projects and collaborate upcoming stewardship projects and future restoration projects at its meeting June 19 at the Sabine National Forest Ranger’s Office in Hemphill.

The purpose of the committee is to improve collaborative relationships and to provide advice and recommendations to the U.S. Forest Service concerning projects and funding consistent with Title II of the Secure Rural Schools and Community Self-Determination Act.

Blackhead Disease in Poultry

June 1, 2018 - Blackhead disease (histomoniasis) is an important poultry disease that affects turkeys, chickens, peafowl, and game birds such as partridges, pheasants, and quail. The disease is caused by Histomonas meleagridis, a protozoan that is transmitted to the bird by the parasite Heterakis gallinarum, a type of nematode, or roundworm.

Unrestrained Fatalities Increasing in Lufkin District

June 1, 2018 Lufkin – As the Click It Or Ticket safety campaign comes to a close on June 2, fatalities from unrestrained motorists have increased in the Lufkin District. State statistics for the fiscal year also show higher fatality rates in rural areas.

Seat belt usage statewide stood at 92-percent for 2017, but the Lufkin District continues to see injuries and fatalities occurring within the past few weeks that are alarming. Wearing a seat belt increases the chances of surviving a crash by 60 percent.
