Nichols Requests Applications for Texas Armed Services Scholarship

June 7, 2017 - Today, Senator Robert Nichols (R-Jacksonville) request qualified students to apply for a Texas Armed Services Scholarship.

"This scholarship is a way to encourage and reward students interested in military service," said Nichols. "It provides a unique opportunity for students to pursue higher education and take advantage of preparation from the Reserve Officers' Training Corps (ROTC) programs at universities in Texas."

Rep. Paddie’s Statement on Special Session

June 6, 2017 - Today, Gov. Abbott announced a special legislative session, on a wide range of issues, that will convene on July 18, 2017.  Below is a statement from Rep. Chris Paddie (R-Marshall) on the upcoming special legislative session:

"While I am disappointed that we have to come back for a special session, there are unresolved issues that still face the state of Texas.  I am glad to see that Gov. Abbott included reforming school finance as the first item that he will add to the call of the special session.  

Forest Service Waives Day-use Fees for National Get Outdoors Day

June 6, 2017 - The National Forests and Grasslands in Texas is waiving fees at day-use recreation sites June 10 for National Get Outdoors Day.

“We hope this free day offers an incentive to all people to experience the great outdoors in our forests and grasslands,” Forest Supervisor Eddie Taylor said.

Camping fees remain in effect, but day-use fees will be waived on Saturday, June 10 at these recreation areas and trails:

USDA Celebrates National Homeownership Month

June 6, 2017 Temple - Acting Deputy Undersecretary for Rural Development Roger Glendenning kicked off National Homeownership Month to celebrate the vital contribution homeowners have made to communities across rural America.

“Owning a home provides rural residents a secure environment where they can raise families, and it helps invigorate local rural economies that are vital to the long-term security and well-being of our nation,” Glendenning said. “Homeownership fortifies communities, creates jobs and strengthens the local businesses that support our towns.”
