USDA Awards Loans to Build, Expand Rural Electric Infrastructure

June 5, 2017 Temple – Acting Deputy Undersecretary for Rural Development Roger Glendenning announced that USDA is providing more than a quarter billion dollars in loans for rural electric infrastructure improvements.
“These loans will help improve the delivery of reliable electricity, and will help ensure that rural areas nationwide can prosper economically and benefit from today’s technologies to meet tomorrow’s needs,” Glendenning said.

Shelby Soil & Water Conservation District Natural Resources/Agriculture Scholarship Award

June 2, 2017 - This year the Shelby Soil & Water Conservation District will be awarding a $1,000 scholar-ship. The scholarship recipient will receive $500 for the fall 2017 semester and another $500 for the spring 2018 semester. The Shelby SWCD Scholarship is open to college students who are working toward a degree in the natural resources or agricultural field. We will be looking at individuals who meet the following qualifications:

Library Remains Closed Through June 3

June 1, 2017 - The Fannie Brown Booth Library will be closed through Saturday, June 3rd. Due to damage to our electrical pole, we have been without power since last weekend. 

Our electrician says he hopes to have the power back on by next Tuesday. We are very sorry for the inconvenience this has been to all our patrons, but appreciate your patience.

My Five Cents: This Week at the Texas Capital

June 1, 2017 - The 85th Legislative Session has come to an end. I believe it was a successful 140 days, and we accomplished a lot for the people of Texas.

My weekly column will now revert back to a monthly column and I will continue to keep you updated as to what is happening not only at your state Capitol, but also in your state.

NMC Health Network to Host Healthy Over Hungry Cereal Drive

Because Hunger Doesn’t Take a Summer Vacation

June 1, 2017 Nacogdoches – NMC Health Network is leading a community effort to provide area children and adults struggling with hunger a healthy breakfast this summer. The Healthy over Hungry Cereal Drive benefits The East Texas Food Bank, a member of the Feeding America network, and will be held June 2nd through June 9th.
