Attorney General Ken Paxton Sends Guidance Letter to Texas Schools

August 25, 2016 - AUSTIN – On May 13, 2016, the U.S. Department of Education and U.S. Department of Justice issued a guidance letter that told schools across the country that, as a condition of receiving federal funds, they were now required under Title IX to allow students to use intimate facilities corresponding to the gender with which they identify.

Projects Approved for Lufkin District: Shelby County Included in Over $600,000 Plan

August 25, 2016 - The Texas Transportation Commission on Thursday approved more than $395.4 million for new construction and facilities contracts and an additional $30 million for maintenance contracts statewide. The Lufkin District was allocated $774,722 for two new construction projects and $852,421 for a highway maintenance contract.

The Troubles of Tending to a Winter Pasture

August 23, 2016 - It is well known that feeding through the winter is the most expensive part of raising livestock.  Either we cut, rake and bale excess grass for the winter months, or we buy hay from those who do.  Regardless, stockmen then feed back the hay all through the winter months when summer pastures are not growing. 

A winter pasture could be clovers, ryegrass, or small grains such as wheat, oat, or rye.  Winter pastures are planted in the fall and typically provide very high quality grazing during a time where poorer quality hay is fed.
