San Augustine Rural WSC Removes Boil Water Notice

August 23, 2016 - The water on San Augustine Rural WSC no longer requires boiling. On August 15, 2016, we issued a Boil Water Notice due to a breakage in a line on FM 2213, which included the entire Roberts Community, and all customers South of City Lake. This also included all customers on 96 South and County Roads south of Bob Evans Equipments located on HWY 96 in San Augustine, Texas. This was issued for safety precautions. We have corrected the problem and tested the water.

August 23, 2016 - On Thursday, August 18th, at approximately 5:30 AM I was awakened by the Sheriff's Office that my Hay Barn was on fire. At that time, Chris Koltonski, Luke Matthews, Keith Wyndham, Duane Lout, Kevin Hudman and Darren Whiteside were already on the scene trying to distinguish the flames. The barn was a total loss, but I feel such a sense of security knowing that these men take their own time to help others who cannot help themselves.

Federal Court Rejects Request to Block Enforcement of Campus Carry Law

August 23, 2016 – The United States District Court for the Western District of Texas today agreed with Attorney General Ken Paxton and denied a request by three University of Texas professors to block enforcement of Texas’ new campus carry law. The Court concluded that the professors were unlikely to prevail in their lawsuit and thus were not entitled to a preliminary injunction against enforcement of the law.

Back-To-School Food Safety Tips for Parents and Caregivers

August 18, 2016 - Back to school, back to the books, back in the saddle, or back in the car for those of us shuttling students to and from school. The new school year means its back to packing lunches and after school snacks for students, scouts, athletes, dancers, and all the other children who carry these items to and from home. One ‘back’ you do not want to reacquaint children with, however, is foodborne bacteria.

Project Updates for Lufkin District, Aug 22-26; Construction Continues on Shelby County Highways

August 22, 2016 - Construction projects in the Lufkin District are ongoing as weather allows with plans for an upcoming weekend closure on BU 59 at the A&NR Railroad Bridge.

Plans include switching train traffic to the newly constructed bridge next week, weather permitting, and a road closure on Aug. 27-28 is scheduled in order to remove the temporary bridge. Paving the northbound lanes of BU 59/North Timberland Drive near the railroad bridge is also continuing.
