December 8, 2016 - The second day of UIL District 22AA Elementary contest was held in Joaquin on Thursday, December 8, 2016. Total school points reported at this time are Joaquin in 1st place with 509 points, Shelbyville in 2nd place with 280 points, Woden in 3rd place with 223 points, Chireno has 117 points, Timpson has 92 points, Tenaha has 57 points, and San Augustine has 38 points. December 5, 2016 - Friends of Robin McDonald will be having a bake sale to help her and her family with expenses. Robin was run over by a hit and run driver while walking home from work on Thanksgiving evening in Nacogdoches.
Robin sustained a broken neck and arm, and some other minor injuries. She is the mother of 3 children and was the sole income earner in their family. Christmas is upon us and Robin and the children need to know that people care.

Dwcwmber 5, 2016 - Texas homeowners may postpone paying the currently delinquent property taxes due on the appreciating value of their homes by taking advantage of a payment option called “residence homestead tax deferral” and filing a tax deferral affidavit at the Shelby County Appraisal District.
December 5, 2016 - Texans who are 65 or older or who are disabled as defined by law may postpone paying current and delinquent property taxes on their homes by signing a tax deferral affidavit at the Shelby County Appraisal District office.

December 2, 2016 - The Texas Department of State Health Services and Cameron County Department of Health and Human Services today announced the first case of Zika virus disease likely transmitted by a mosquito in Texas. DSHS is supporting Cameron County’s response to the case and to the ongoing risk of Zika in the community.
