USDA Revises Guidance on Date Labeling to Reduce Food Waste

Encourages Industry to use “Best if Used By” on Product Labels

December 14, 2016 WASHINGTON – The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) today issued updated information on food product labeling, including new guidance aimed at reducing food waste through encouraging food manufacturers and retailers that apply product dating to use a “Best if Used By” date label.

Texas Announces Additional Local Zika Cases in Cameron County

December 10, 2016 - The Texas Department of State Health Services and Cameron County Department of Health and Human Services have identified four additional cases of suspected locally transmitted Zika virus disease in Cameron County. The cases were identified as part of the follow up to the state’s first case of Zika likely transmitted by a mosquito in Texas, announced Nov. 28.

USDA Announces New Conservation Opportunities to Improve Water Quality, Restore Wildlife Habitat

December 9, 2016 – Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack announced that the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) will offer farmers and ranchers more opportunities to participate in the Conservation Reserve Program (CRP). The announcement includes new CRP practices to protect water quality and adds an additional 1.1 million acres targeted to benefit wildlife, pollinators and wetlands.

UIL District 22AA Middle School Contest Day 2 Results

December 8, 2016 - Middle Schools competed at Joaquin ISD in the UIL District 22AA Junior High contest on Thursday, December 8, 2016. Total point summary at the end of Day 2 has Woden in the lead with 644.5 points Shelbyville with 639 points and and Joaquin with 620.8 points. Timpson had 351.1 total points, Tenaha 297 points, Chireno had 214.5 points, and San Augustine had 175 points.
