Court of Appeals Rules in Favor of Texas’s Sovereign Power: Hazlewood Act is Constitutional

June 23, 2016 AUSTIN — The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit today upheld Texas’s Hazlewood Act, which waives public state university tuition for honorably discharged veterans who enlisted from Texas. To qualify for the 150 hours of tuition-free credit, veterans must have entered military service at a location in Texas, been a resident of Texas while enlisting, or declared the state as their home of record on their military records. Attorney General Ken Paxton issue the following statement on today’s ruling:

Panola Schools Accepting Transfers/Enrolling for 2016-2017 School Year

June 22, 2016 - Panola Schools is now accepting transfers and enrolling for grades 8-12 for the 2016-2017 school year. Texas Education Agency recently issued a waiver for the district approving them for the school’s geographic boundaries which includes; Beckville, Carthage, Center, Elysian Fields, Gary, Garrison, Hallsville, Harleton, Hemphill, Henderson, Jefferson, Joaquin, Karnack, Marshall, Pine Tree, Shelbyville, Tatum, Teneha, Timpson & Waskom.
