National Extension Association of Family and Consumer Sciences Recognizes Shelby County Agent

October 18, 2016 - Jheri-Lynn McSwain, County Extension Agent of Shelby County, Texas was honored recently at the National Extension Association for Family and Consumer Sciences (NEAFCS) 2016 annual session.  She received the 3rd place National and 1st place Region Florence Hall Award at the conference held on September 12, 2016 in Big Sky, Montana.  In receiving the award, McSwain was recognized for her Step Up and Scale Down program conducted during 2014 and 2015.

Integrated Pest Management Program for Set for Nov. 9

October 17, 2016 - A continuing education course for integrated pest management professionals will be held in Nacogdoches on Nov. 9.

Registration begins inside the Nacogdoches Expo Center, 3805 NW Stallings Drive at 8 a.m. The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service course begins at 9 a.m. and ends at 3:40 p.m.

The cost of the program is $30 for preregistered attendees and $35 on the day of the event. RSVP with payment by Nov. 4 to preregister. Mail registration to Nacogdoches County Extension Office, 203 W. Main St, Nacogdoches TX. 75961.

Farm Service Agency Reminds Producers of Acreage Reporting Deadline

October 18, 2016 - In order to comply with FSA program eligibility requirements, all producers are encouraged to visit the Nacogdoches USDA Service Center to file an accurate crop certification report by the applicable deadline.  Reporting deadlines vary by crop.

The deadline to report pasture and hay acreage for 2017 is November 15, 2016.  Timely reporting of your grass acreages will prevent you from incurring late file fees.

The following exceptions apply to the above acreage reporting date:

DPS Bolsters School Bus Safety Efforts

October 17, 2016 – In conjunction with National School Bus Safety Week (Oct. 17-21), the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) is urging drivers to comply with laws prohibiting the passing of school buses. During this period, DPS Highway Patrol troopers will be watching for drivers who violate the law and taking the appropriate enforcement action. It is illegal to pass any school bus that is stopped and operating a visual signal – either flashing red lights or a stop sign.
 

DSHS Reminds Pregnant Women who Travel to Mexico About Zika Testing

October 17, 2016 - The Texas Department of State Health Services is reminding pregnant women who cross the border with Mexico that Zika testing is available to them and encourages them to discuss testing with their health care providers. Under current Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines, Zika testing is recommended for any pregnant woman who has traveled to a country with ongoing Zika transmission, including those who regularly cross the U.S.-Mexico border.

October 17, 2016 - The Shelbyville Lions Club would like to graciously thank everyone that helped make our 5th annual Happenings at Shelbyville Hill Fest a huge success! We are truly humbled by all the support, compliments and attendance we received. Proceeds will go toward Shelbyville High School scholarships, various community projects,  such as our Shelbyville Welcome signs and long term planning goals for the expansion of our club.  The Shelbyville Lions Club is a non-profit 501(c)(4 ) organization.
