USDA Seeks Applications for Grants to Help Socially Disadvantaged Rural Businesses

June 7, 2016 – USDA Rural Development Texas State Director Paco Valentin today announced that USDA is seeking applications for grants to provide assistance to socially-disadvantaged business groups in rural areas.
 
“One of USDA Rural Development’s missions is to provide assistance that will increase the economic conditions of rural communities,” said Valentin.  “These grants allow eligible applicants to provide technical assistance to socially disadvantaged groups in rural areas and in turn, promote job creation and improve their operations.”
 

Farm Service Agency Public meetings Scheduled

June 6, 2016 - Nacogdoches-Angelina-Trinity-San Augustine-Shelby Farm Service Agency will conduct public meetings to discuss the County Committee election / nomination process and other FSA assistance programs as well as FSA farm loan programs.  Agency representatives will be available to answer any questions regarding all programs available to producers.  The meetings will be held on the following dates at the places listed:

Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service to Offer Professional Food Manager Certification Training Course

June 3, 2016 - Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service, Nacogdoches County, is offering a professional food manager certification training course. This 2-Day program will be offered for $125.00 on Monday, June 27th, and Thursday June 30th 2016 at the Nacogdoches County Annex Building on 203 West Main Street in Nacogdoches Texas at 8:30 A.M. until 4:30 P.M. Cost includes training, materials, and a national food manager certification examination. The food manager’s certification will be valid for five years.

June 3, 2016 - On June 6, 1944, 160,000 Allied troops landed along a 50-mile stretch of heavily-fortified French coastline to fight Nazi Germany on the beaches of Normandy, France. General Dwight D. Eisenhower called the operation a crusade in which “we will accept nothing less than full victory.” More than 5,000 Ships and 13,000 aircraft supported the D-Day invasion, and by day’s end on June 6, the Allies gained a foot- hold in Normandy.

U.S. Forest Service Waives Day-Use Fees for National Get Outdoors Day

June 2, 2016 - The National Forests and Grasslands in Texas is waiving fees at day-use recreation sites June 11 for National Get Outdoors Day.
 
“We hope this free day offers an incentive to all people to experience the great outdoors in our forests and grasslands,” Supervisor Mark Van Every said.
 
Camping fees remain in effect, but day-use fees will be waived on Saturday, June 11 at these recreation areas and trails:
 
Angelina National Forest: Caney Creek and Townsend.
