Upcoming Center High School Alumni Class Reunions

September 8, 2016 - Center High School Alumni will soon to coming together to celebration during Center Homecoming week. Homecoming game is Friday, September 16th against Diboll at Roughrider Stadium. 

CHS Alumni Association Meeting is Saturday, September 17 at the Community House. Doors open at 9. Meeting begins at 10 am. CHS Hall of Honor award will be presented during the meeting. The CHS Homecoming Parade is also Saturday, September 17 at 4 pm on the Downtown Center Square.

Work to Begin on US 59 From Nacogdoches Loop to Angelina River

September 16, 2016 - Texas Department of Transportation contractors will begin next week a surface overlay project on US 59 from approximately 2 miles south of SL 224 in Nacogdoches County to the Angelina River Bridge at the Angelina County line.

Moore Brothers Construction Company, contractor for the $1.6 million project, will set project barricades on Tuesday and begin road construction by Sept. 26. Work should be completed by mid-October, weather permitting.

Partnerships & Community Involvement Help Texas High School win $10 Million in ‘XQ Super School’ Contest

September 15, 2016 - The wait is over. The announcement has come. Furr High School is an XQ America Super School. And although this may be new news to most Texans – the recognition did not happen overnight.

The origins of this success are vast and varied, but for two lead educators, there is little doubt where their inspiration came from – their own high school experiences, the engagement of their teachers and the facilitation of the students getting involved with state, federal and non-governmental agencies.

FSA Reminds Producers of Acreage Reporting Deadline

September 15, 2016 - In order to comply with FSA program eligibility requirements, all producers are encouraged to visit the Nacogdoches USDA Service Center to file an accurate crop certification report by the applicable deadline.  Reporting deadlines vary by crop.

The deadline to report pasture and hay acreage for 2017 is November 15, 2016.  Timely reporting of your grass acreages will prevent you from incurring late file fees.

The following exceptions apply to the above acreage reporting date:

TxDOT Offers Free Child Car Seat Inspections

September 14, 2016 - With three out of four child car seats improperly installed, the Texas Department of Transportation encourages all caregivers to make an appointment for a free inspection at one of the agency’s 25 statewide district offices. TxDOT reminds all Texans that properly restraining their children while riding in vehicles is an everyday, year-round responsibility. It’s also the law.

USDA Investments to Improve Drinking Water and Waste Infrastructure

September 13, 2016 - Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack today announced that the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) is making investments to improve water and waste infrastructure for 168 small towns across the country. The investment, totaling $283 million, is made through USDA Rural Development’s Water and Waste Disposal Loan and Grant Program, which provides assistance and financing to develop drinking water and waste disposal systems for communities with 10,000 or fewer residents.
