Episcopal Health Foundation, Seminary of the Southwest Aims Partnership to Increase Access to Mental Health Care

September 9, 2015 - A new, first-of-it's-kind partnership between the Episcopal Health Foundation (EHF) and Seminary of the Southwest in Austin is working to increase access to desperately needed mental health services for disadvantaged and underserved families in rural East Texas.

The Bishop Dena A. Harrison Fellows Program places recent seminary master's in counseling graduates with a rural mental health agency serving 12 East Texas counties.

Attorney General Paxton Asks Court to Halt Illegal Water Rule in Texas

September 9, 2015 - Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton today asked a federal judge to halt the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) overreaching new water rule, jointly issued with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, which vastly expands federal jurisdiction over “navigable waters” under the Clean Water Act. Texas is asking the judge to lift a temporary judicial stay of the litigation and issue a preliminary injunction, arguing that the rule violates the U.S. Constitution, federal law and U.S.

DSHS: Salmonella Outbreak Prompts Warning, Nine Cases Identified in Texas

September 4, 2015 - The Texas Department of State Health Services is urging people to follow national guidance issued today not to eat recalled cucumbers that may be contaminated with Salmonella, a bacteria that can make people sick.

The guidance was issued in connection with a multi-state Salmonella Poona outbreak that appears to be linked to imported cucumbers from Mexico distributed by Andrew & Williamson Fresh Produce, a California company.
