Heavy Rainfall Expected to Impact the Four State Region

October 23, 2015 - A deep upper level trough across the southern and central plains is helping tap moisture from the eastern Pacific and Gulf of Mexico.  As a result, widespread showers and thunderstorms will continue to affect most of North Central and Northeast Texas as well as Southeast Oklahoma and Southwest Arkansas today. This rainfall should continue into tonight with the heaviest rainfall expected to remain across the northern half of Northeast Texas, Southeast Oklahoma, and Southwest Arkansas.

Texas Attorney General’s Office Visits Beaumont to Bring Awareness to Scams Targeting Seniors

October 23, 2015 - As part of a statewide effort by the Texas Attorney General’s Office (OAG) to fight fraud and scams affecting senior Texans, today Assistant Attorney General Rick Berlin participated as the main speaker at the Southeast Senior Texans Celebration and Consumer Expo organized by the Better Business Bureau (BBB).

Redistricting Attorneys’ Fees Award Unconstitutional Under Shelby County v. Holder

October 23, 2015 - The Texas Attorney General’s Office today petitioned the U.S. Supreme Court in State of Texas v. Wendy Davis, et al. to review and hold unconstitutional an award of attorneys’ fees to parties who challenged Texas’s redistricting maps. The lower courts awarded these parties fees based on the Voting Rights Act’s unconstitutional preclearance framework, which the Supreme Court nullified in 2013 in Shelby County v. Holder.  
 

Texas A&M Forest Service Celebrates 100 Years of Service with 100 Trees to 100 Communities


October 20, 2015 - One-hundred communities across Texas are receiving a special delivery of 100 trees in honor of Texas A&M Forest Service’s centennial year, capping off a full year of celebrating the agency’s commitment to conserve and protect Texas’ trees and forests.

Aiming to help communities expand their urban tree canopy, 10,000 seedlings were grown at the TFS-operated West Texas Nursery specifically for “100 Trees for 100 Communities.” Sign up was first open to Texas’ Tree City USA communities, then expanded to other cities and towns.

Opportunity for Public Hearing

October 20, 2015 - LUFKIN – The public is being given the opportunity to request a public hearing regarding an upcoming Texas Department of Transportation project on FM 2609/East Austin Street.

TxDOT, in partnership with the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) and the City of Nacogdoches, is proposing to widen FM 2609/East Austin Street between Raguet Street and North Street in Nacogdoches, consisting of about one-fourth of a mile.

Livestock Producers May Be Eligible for 2015 Drought Disaster Assistance

October 19, 2015 - The County Executive Director for the Farm Service Agency (FSA) at the Nacogdoches USDA Service Center, Lance Jacobs, announced that ranchers and livestock producers may be eligible for assistance from the Livestock Forage Disaster Program (LFP) for grazing losses incurred in 2015 due to drought.
