Annual Pro Bono Awards Announced For Case Handling

November 16, 2015 - To commemorate National Pro Bono Week (October 25·31), Lone Star Legal Aid honors Lynda K. Russell with the 2015 Most Contested Pro Bono Cases Litigated Award. The Lone Star Legal Aid Pro Bono Awards recognizes attorneys, law firms and community partners who donate their time and legal expertise to ensuring that all Shelby County residents have equal access to the courts.

History of the Timpson American Legion, Post 90

November 13, 2015 - In the 1920s through the 1950s, Timpson had an annual Memorial Day program that was attended by thousands of people from the surrounding counties of Deep East Texas. Most years there would be over 5,000 people in SoSo Park for this event. The reason for Timpson being the center of this activity was the fact that Timpson had a military unit here. At first it was the Texas Volunteer Guard and then later became the Texas National Guard. Many young men from the surrounding counties who joined these units came to Timpson to do their training.

C.J. Eaden kneels by his father's grave marker.November 13, 2015 - In the early part of 2014 I was researching material for Vietnam Veteran Sergeant William Henry Eaden of Timpson, Texas. Sergeant Eaden was a career Army Noncommissioned Officer who was killed in action on November 12th, 1965.

This Week At The Patricia Huffman Smith NASA Museum “Remembering Columbia”

November 13, 2015 - This week at the Museum we want to thank Todd Hellner for coming to the Museum to speak on behalf of NASA to several schools, including Martinsville, West Sabine, and Hemphill ISD. We also want to thank Michael Hare for connecting with us from NASA virtually in our classroom with these students. We look forward to many more events like this happening at the Museum and we hope that you and or your school can participate.

TxDOT Reports of Projects in Shelby County, Other Lufkin District Counties

November 10, 2015  LUFKIN – Utility crews continue working to relocate utilities ahead of highway construction on US 59 and Loop 224 in Nacogdoches.

Webber, contractor for the project, continues to work on the US 59/SL 224 westbound exit ramp as utility crews prepare nearby right of ways that will signal the advance of the project. Contractors are also preparing to begin construction on raised medians on US 59 for 1.2 miles south of SL 224 as part of the ongoing construction project.

FSA County Committee Elections to Begin; Producers to Receive Ballots Week of Nov. 9

November 10, 2015 - Farmers and Ranchers Have a Voice in Local Farm Program Decisions

WASHINGTON, Nov. 5, 2015 – Farm Service Agency (FSA) Administrator Val Dolcini today announced that the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) will begin mailing ballots to eligible farmers and ranchers across the country for the 2015 FSA County Committee elections on Monday, November 9, 2015. Producers must return ballots to their local FSA offices by Dec. 7, 2015, to ensure that their vote is counted.
