Forest Service Offering Temporary Jobs to Qualified Veterans

October 7, 2015 - The U.S. Forest Service is seeking qualified veterans for paid training in prescribed burns and wildland fire suppression for temporary positions.

 

Veterans selected for the eight-week program must be 18 years or older with an honorable military discharge and able to complete a firefighter training course on the Ocala National Forest in Florida during the first two weeks of employment.

USDA Reminds Producers of Nov. 15th Acreage Reporting Date for Noninsurable Crops

October 7, 2015 - Nacogdoches-Angelina-Trinity-San Augustine-Shelby County USDA Farm Service Agency (FSA) Executive Director, Lance Jacobs urges producers who want to purchase coverage through the Noninsurable Crop Disaster Assistance Program (NAP) to please contact the office. The final date to report 2016 native and improved grasses intended for grazing or haying must be reported by November 15, 2015. This is two weeks earlier than the sales closing date of December 1, 2015 to purchase the coverage.

Texas, Gulf States and Federal Government Announce Settlement with BP over Deepwater Horizon Spill

October 6, 2015 - Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton today announced that Texas, together with four states and the federal government, had reached a settlement with BP that fully resolves all remaining government claims against the company resulting from the 2010 Deepwater Horizon disaster. Texas’ share of today’s announced settlement totals more than $800 million in money and restoration projects. Combined with money from previous settlements, Texas will ultimately receive more than $1 billion to help restore Texas’s Gulf resources.
