David's Daily Devotion for Apr. 9

April 9, 2024 - Good Morning! It's Tuesday, April 9.

I'm a city boy. I was born in Texas' biggest city, Houston, and spent my first 30 years there. Then I lived in Dallas for the next 15. We've become a nation of urban dwellers. In 2020, only 20% of Americans were considered "country people". In 1900, 60% of us lived in the country or in small towns. In 1800, 95% of Americans lived outside of cities. It's not surprising, then, that many of our hymns, largely written before 1900, include words and references related to farming and the rural life.

Lufkin District, State Preparing for Eclipse

April 5, 2024 — The Texas Department of Transportation is warning drivers to take extra caution on Monday, April 8, as a total solar eclipse will be visible throughout the state from late morning to early afternoon.

As this intergalactic experience comes front and center, out-of-state visitors and Texans traveling to get a perfect view are expected. This will cause heavier traffic on major roadways. Plan for delays, longer travel times, and give yourself extra time to get to your destination before and after the eclipse.

East Lamar Public Water System Rescinds Boil Water Notice

April 5, 2024 - On April 3, 2024, the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality required the East Lamar public water system, 2100006, to issue a Boil Water Notice to inform customers, individuals, or employees that due to conditions which occurred recently in the public water system, the water from this public water system was required to be boiled prior to use for drinking water or human consumption purposes.

Don’t Let the Eclipse Overshadow Boating Safety

April 4, 2024 – With the widely anticipated total eclipse fast approaching, we know many may be planning to view this phenomenon from a boat or the shores of area waterways. With their often-unobstructed view of the horizon, scenic beauty and lower levels of light pollution, any of the more than 50 bodies of water in the path of totality across the state will make for a truly unique vantage point.
