“A Tinker's Dam” by Neal Murphy

March 7, 2024 - I was watching the Dr. Phil show the other day when he made a statement that I had not heard in a long time. He told one of his guests that he didn’t “care a tinker’s damn about that”. That comment prompted me to delve into that old saying as to its real or intended meaning. The meaning in today’s society is “something that is insignificant or worthless”. However, the saying has more than that one meaning.

March 6, 2024 - Good Morning! It's Wednesday, March 6.

In April of 1962, President John F. Kennedy hosted a dinner at the White House. In attendance were 49 Nobel Prize winners.  Robert Oppenheimer was there, too. And when JFK rose to speak, he began with these words -

"I think that this is the most extraordinary collection of talent, of human knowledge, that has ever been gathered at the White House - with the possible exception of when Thomas Jefferson dined alone."
