March 8, 2023 - The Shelby County Commissioners allowed during their February 22, 2023 meeting, for the Shelby County Jail to accept certain food donations.
Don Moore, Shelby County Jail Administrator, spoke with the Shelby County Commissioners about receiving food donations for the jail to help reduce costs. He reminded the commissioners he spoke with the in November 2022 about the rising cost of food and that he would be seeking ways to lower the expense.
March 7, 2023 - Greg Grant will be conducting controlled burns on three different pine plantings in Arcadia this week. Winds will be out of the south during the burns. In addition to creating scenic, open, park-like pine forests and promoting native grasses and wildflowers, regular prescribed fire reduces fuel loads, decreasing the chance of catastrophic wildfires during the summer; controls underbrush, diseases, and insects; and promotes wildlife habitat for deer, turkey, quail, pollinators, and declining pine savanna and grassland songbirds.

March 6, 2023 - The week of February 26th through March 4th added 5 more medical calls to the record for Joaquin Volunteer Fire Department. Here’s a summary of the week’s events.
Tuesday at 7:35pm a call was received for a female having trouble breathing on County Road 3598. The JVFD EMR team responded to provide oxygen with an assist from DeSoto Fire District 1. The patient was later transported by Allegiance EMS to an emergency room.
March 3, 2023 - On February 28, 2023, the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality required the Choice public water system, 2100005 to issue a Boil Water Notice to inform customers, individuals, or employees that due to conditions which occurred recently in the public water system, the water from this public water system was required to be boiled prior to use for drinking water or human consumption purposes.
March 3, 2023 - Following the storm which entered Shelby County March 2, 2023, the Texas Division of Emergency Management (TDEM) is encouraging those who may have damage to utilize the TDEM Individual State of Texas Assessment Tool (iSTAT) to submit damages incurred by your Residence or Business property.
Updated: The Sheriff's Department reports Gary Smith has been taken into custody by investigators with the SCSO with assistance of the San Augustine County Sheriff's Office at 3:20pm.
