Woodland Shores Rescinds Boil Water Notice

January 17, 2023 - On December 26, 2022, the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality required the Woodland Shores Subdivision public water system, #2100037, to issue a Boil Water Notice to inform customers, individuals or employees that due to conditions which occurred recently in the public water system, the water from this public water system was required to be boiled prior to use for drinking water or human consumption purposes.

Shelby County Woman Sentenced for Federal Drug Trafficking Violations

January 12, 2023 - A Center woman has been sentenced to 10 years in federal prison for drug trafficking violations in the Eastern District of Texas, announced U.S. Attorney Brit Featherston today.

Ingrid Yaresi Balderas De Leon, 28, pleaded guilty on July 12, 2022, to conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute methamphetamine and was sentenced to 120 months in federal prison today by U.S. District Judge Marcia A. Crone.

Sheriff's Department Cold Case: Vanished - Cole Duane Jackson

January 10, 2023 - Today, January 10, 2023 marks the 50th birthday of Cole Duane Jackson. The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office is seeking information on Cole Duane Jackson, a white male who vanished from the Timpson, Texas area on July 13th, 2006. Mr. Jackson was 33 years of age at the time of his disappearance, 16 years and six months ago. Mr. Jackson was last seen in the area of FM 1645 in Timpson, Texas, and was seen driving a grey 2003 Dodge half-ton 4 wheel drive pickup truck. Mr.

January 8, 2023 - According to Shelby County Sheriff Kevin Windham, the Shelby County Sheriff’s Department phone lines are down until at least Monday, January 9. Dispatch operators can be reach at 936-234-1244.

Joaquin VFD Reports Active Week with 7 Calls

January 9, 2023 - The opening week to 2023 was an active one for the Joaquin Volunteer Fire Department with 7 separate calls, 3 of those on New Year's Day alone. Here's a summary of the week's events.

The first call of the year came in around 2:00am for a camper on fire off of County Road 3189. When units arrived on scene, they found the camper fully involved and began to pull hose lines. After a close to an hour of dousing flames and hot spots the fire was deemed under control. The camper was a complete loss, but no one was harmed.
