NWS Cancels Hurricane Laura Warning, Issues Tropical Storm Warning

August 27, 2020 - The National Weather Service cancelled the Hurricane Warning for Laura and issued a Tropical Storm warning at 7:27am, Thursday, August 27, 2020.

A Tropical Storm Warning means tropical storm-force winds are expected somewhere within this area within the next 36 hours.

SCAM ALERT: Beware of Entities Posing as State Agencies to Send Purchase Orders

August 27, 2020 - Attorney General Ken Paxton issued a consumer alert warning Texans and Texas companies to exercise caution with any purchase order purporting to come from a state agency when they have not established prior contact with that agency. Recently, scammers and entities posing as state agencies have sent out purchase orders for goods. The company receiving the fraudulent purchase order then processes the order, ships the goods and never receives payment from the scammers.

Significant Weather Advisory Includes Shelby County, Surrounding Areas (Updated 6:30pm)

August 26, 2020 - Significant Weather Advisory for De Soto, Northwestern Red River, and Southwestern Caddo Parishes Southeastern Harrison, Panola, and Shelby Counties until 7:15pm CDT.

At 623 PM CDT, Doppler radar was tracking strong thunderstorms along a line extending from 8 miles northeast of Mansfield to 7 miles northeast of Logansport to near Shelbyville. Movement was northwest at 40 mph.

Winds in excess of 40 mph will be possible with these storms.

Shelby County Judge Issues Disaster Declaration for the County

August 26, 2020 - Whereas, the County of Shelby, Texas, on the 26th of August, 2020, is in imminent threat of being in the path of Hurricane Laura as described in reports by the United States National Weather Service and the Texas State Operations Center, potentially causing widespread injury or loss of life and severe property damage resulting from conditions created by torrential rainfall, major flooding with high speed winds and tornadic activity over an excessive period of time in residential, agricultural and commercial areas, as well as, major infrastructure damage preventing

Local Officials Release COVID-19 Update: 1 New Case, No New Recoveries​​

August 26, 2020 - The Shelby County Emergency Management office reports as of 8:49am on Wednesday, August 26, 2020, TxDSHS has reported 1 new case and the cumulative case count is now 426. The death count is 14 for Shelby County. (The DSHS website dashboard shows 19 deaths for Shelby County as of Aug 25th.)

According to the state's algorithm to determine recoveries, there are no new recoveries reported and the total of recoveries is 383. The number of active cases is 29.

Hostess Brands LLC Expands Voluntary Recall of Raspberry Zingers

August 26, 2020 - Hostess Brands, LLC (“Hostess Brands”) is expanding its voluntary recall of certain Hostess® Raspberry Zingers® because the product may develop mold prior to the best by date.

The products were sold to mass merchandisers, grocery stores, distributors, dollar and discount stores, and convenience stores throughout the United States.

Consumers who have purchased the affected product are urged to discontinue consumption and contact the place of purchase about returning them for a full refund.
