September 8, 2020 - (Update) - In regards to the suspicious death that occurred Thurs., Sept. 4 on CR 3754 in Center, the deceased hs been identified as Kristy Simmonds of Center.

Local Officials Release COVID-19 Update: No New Cases, 13 New Recoveries

September 8, 2020 - The Shelby County Emergency Management office reports as of 10:43am on Tuesday, September 8, 2020, TxDSHS has reported no new cases since Wednesday, September 2. The cumulative case count remains at 442. The death count is 14 for Shelby County. (The DSHS website dashboard shows 20 deaths for Shelby County as of Sept 3rd.)

According to the state's algorithm to determine recoveries, there are 13 new recoveries, six of which had been overlooked and not previously reprted. The total of recoveries is 414. The number of active cases is 14.

New Speed Limit Signs Being Posted in Shelby County

September 8, 2020 - New speed limit signs are being set on US 96 after recent approval by the Texas Transportation Commission.

The newly set speed limit on US 96 will be reduced from 75 mph to 70 mph from the City of Center city limits to the San Augustine County line in Shelby County.

SH7 East, Loop 500 Scene of Major Crash Incident

State Highway 87 South, FM 414 Blocked by Trees in Multiple Areas

Update: Multiple areas have trees down on SH 87 South and FM 414. Use caution if traveling through the area.

September 4, 2020 - Travelers should be aware all four lanes of State Highway 87 South near FM 414 are blocked by a tree as of 8:48pm. Emergency crews are en-route to the scene to clear the debris. Anyone traveling through this area should either consider an alternate route, or wait until the scene is clear.

The death count is 14 for Shelby County. (The DSHS website dashboard shows 20 deaths for Shelby County as of Sept 3rd.)

According to the state's algorithm to determine recoveries, there are 2 new recoveries reported and the total of recoveries is 401. The number of active cases is 27.

Timpson ISD Reports Two COVID-19 Cases

September 3, 2020 - As the battle continues against COVID-19, Shelby County is daily faced with the difficulty of new cases.

In an effort to keep the public informed, and to provide transparency throughout this struggle which everyone is facing, Timpson ISD has shared two cases have occurred and recently been reported.

Heavy, Brief Rainstorm Causes Blockage of Two Major Highways

September 3, 2020 - Heavy rains blew through Shelby County on Wednesday, September 2, 2020 which resulted in traffic incidents on two highways causing delays.

Emergency personnel were dispatched to State Highway 7 West near CR 1170 at 12:35pm.
