January 23, 2024 - The National Weather Service has issued a Flash Flood warning as of 2:27pm CST Tue Jan 23 2024 for the following counties (including Shelby), parishes and cities Caddo, Bossier, Webster, Claiborne, Lincoln, Union, De Soto, Red River, Bienville, Jackson, Ouachita, Sabine, Natchitoches, Winn, Grant, Caldwell, La Salle, Wood, Upshur, Marion, Smith, Gregg, Harrison, Cherokee, Rusk, Panola, Nacogdoches, Shelby, Angelina, San Augustine, Sabine, including the cities of Gibsland, Jonesboro, Bossier City, Jena, Mineola, Marshall, Lufkin, Hemphill, Colfax, Pineland, Mansfi

Denning Rural Water System Rescinds Boil Water Notice

January 23, 2024 - The water on Denning Rural WSC no longer requires boiling.

On January 16, 2024, the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality required the Denning Rural Water Supply, #2030004, to issue a Boil Water Notice to inform customers, individuals or employees that due to conditions which occurred recently in the public water system, the water from this public water system was required to be boiled prior to use for drinking water or human consumption purposes.

Joaquin VFD Report Includes Seven Medical Calls, One Fire Call

January 22, 2023 - Over the week of January 14th through 20th the Joaquin Volunteer Fire Department received 8 separate calls. Here’s a summary of the week’s events.

Thursday had three calls including a fall patient on Connell’s Ferry Road at 11:42am, a student having a seizure at the Joaquin High School at 1:10pm, and a person with injuries sustained from a fall on County Road 3405 at 4:54pm

City of Joaquin Rescinds Boil Water Notice

January 19, 2024 - On January 5, 2024, the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality required the City of Joaquin public water system, 2100010 to issue a Boil Water Notice to inform customers, individuals, or employees that due to conditions which occurred recently in the public water system, the water from this public water system was required to be
boiled prior to use for drinking water or human consumption purposes.

DPS Confirms Investigation into Death at Shelby County Jail

January 18, 2024 - The Texas Department of Public Safety has confirmed the Texas Rangers are involved in investigating the in custody death that was reported by the Shelby County Sheriff’s Department on January 17, 2024. 

According to information from DPS, at the request of the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office, the Texas Rangers are assisting with this investigation.

In conclusion DPS states, due to this being an active and ongoing investigation, additional information is not available.

Sheriff Reports In Custody Death Under Investigation

January 17, 2024 - Shelby County Sheriff Kevin W. Windham reports the in custody death of James Jackson, 60, of Center. Jackson passed away January 17, 2024 at approximately 5:35 a.m. The Texas Rangers have been called in and are investigating the situation.

Timpson ISD Extends Closure to Wednesday Due to Inclement Weather

January 16, 2024 - Out of an abundance of caution, Timpson ISD schools will remain closed Wednesday, January 17. Lingering ice has made bus routes and other roads for those commuting unsafe. Classes will resume at regular time on Thursday, January 18 and Friday, January 19.


January 15, 2024 - Due to inclement weather, all Timpson ISD schools will be CLOSED on January 16, 2024. Timpson ISD will continue to monitor the weather and will provide further updates. Thank you!
