National Weather Service Issues Severe Thunderstorm Warning

January 8, 2024 - At 12:30pm on Monday, January 8, 2024 the National Weather Service in Shreveport has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning until 1pm for Southwestern De Soto Parish in northwestern Louisiana; Northwestern Sabine Parish in northwestern Louisiana; Eastern Shelby County in eastern Texas; Northeastern San Augustine County in eastern Texas; and Northwestern Sabine County in eastern Texas.

At 12:30pm, a severe thunderstorm was located near Patroon, or 19 miles southeast of Center, moving northeast at 55 mph.

Natural Gas Service Restoration in Center, Shelbyville Substantially Completed

January 7, 2024 - Customers need to be home for technicians to restore service. Customers need to call 888-551-4011 only if there is a blue door hanger at their home or business

Following a natural gas outage affecting approximately 1,500 customers in Center and Shelbyville, Texas, CenterPoint Energy has restored service to all customers who have provided the company access to perform safety checks and relight pilots. The outage was a result of damage to a third-party pipeline that is not owned or operated by CenterPoint Energy.

CenterPoint Going Door to Door Turning Gas Back On; Gas Service in Process of Being Reactivated

January 6, 2023 - Shelby County Today has had reports from natural gas customers in Center stating their gas has been turned back on.

According to Luciana Barr, Emergency Management Coordinator for Shelby County, CenterPoint has repaired the gas leak. They are currently going door to door to turn back on the gas. Someone must be at home as they go door to door to turn on gas. They will be checking for leaks.

N.E.W. Water System Rescinds Boil Water Notice

The water on N.E.W. WSC no longer requires boiling.

January 5, 2024 - On December 29, 2023, the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality required the N.E.W. Water Supply, #2030034, to issue a Boil Water Notice to inform customers, individuals or employees that due to conditions which occurred recently in the public water system, the water from this public water system was required to be boiled prior to use for drinking water or human consumption purposes.

Commissioners Discuss Payroll, Approve Sale, Purchase of New Truck

January 4, 2024 - The Shelby County Commissioners discussed a larger than normal payroll, as well as the sale of an old truck, and purchase of a new one for Precinct 4 during their meeting held Wednesday, January 3, 2024.

The commissioners considered the payment of the current payroll and Roscoe McSwain, Commissioner Precinct 1, commented there is a lot of overtime going through the Sheriff’s Department as well as Holiday pay.
