Center PD Investigates Crash at Hurst, Cass-Caid Intersection

November 28, 2023 - The intersection of hurst Street and Cass-Caid Drive was the scene of a single-vehicle crash on Thursday, November 23, 2023.

According to the Center Police Department, at 1:35am a maroon Dodge Ram 1500 pickup truck driven by Jorge Vazquez, 21, of Center was northbound in the 800 block of Hurst Street when the Ram left the roadway to the right and struck a concrete drainage culvert, flipping over onto its top, and crossing the 100 block of Cass-Caid Drive. The Ram landed in the parking lot of Roughrider Quick Lube.

November 28, 2023 - The interment of former First Lady Rosalynn Carter will be tomorrow, Wednesday, November 29, 2023. Flags should be raised to full-staff following sunset tomorrow.

FM 2468, 699 Intersection Scene of Major Crash

November 28, 2023 - FM 2468 at the intersection of FM 699 in Center was the scene of a fatal crash on the morning of November 23, 2023.

Emergency personnel were dispatched to the location at 4:02am.

According to information released by Center Police Sgt. Bubba Lee, at an unknown time, a blue Hyundai Elantra driven by Pablo Alejandro Leandro, 24, of Nacogdoches was traveling southeast at a high rate of speed on Portacool Way (FM 2468) when the Hyundai failed to stop at the intersection of Cotton Ford Road.

Sheriff Seeks Suspect in ATV Theft

November 27, 2023 - The SCSO is investigating the theft of a 2013 Artic Cat 700 Prowler. The side by side was taken from a hunting lease in the 8000 block of US 96 S between November 20 - November 23, 2023.

City of Center Street Closures Due to Construction

November 21, 2023 - Street improvement work contracted with Drewery Construction by the Street Improvement Corporation of the City was initiated today by a subcontractor without required advance notice to residents and City staff.

Streets obstructed due to construction activities today will be opened for normal traffic by Wednesday evening as not to interfere with regular traffic access during the Thanksgiving holiday and weekend.

SC Courthouse to Close Early Wednesday

November 21, 2023 - Shelby County Courthouse offices are scheduled to be open from 8am until 1pm on Wednesday, November 22, 2023, in observation of the Thanksgiving holiday..

The Shelby County Clerk’s office will be closed at 12-noon.

All offices will be closed until Monday, November 27 when they will re-open during normal scheduled hours.

Shelby County Tax Office Hours for Wednesday

November 21, 2023 - Shelby County Tax/Motor Vehicle office will be closing early for the holiday, Wednesday, November 22, at 1pm.

Our normal hours will resume Monday, Nov. 27th.

N.E.W. Water System Rescinds Boil Water Notice

The water on N.E.W. WSC no longer requires boiling.

November 21, 2023 - On November 16, 2023, the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality required the N.E.W. Water Supply, #2030034, to issue a Boil Water Notice to inform customers, individuals or employees that due to conditions which occurred recently in the public water system, the water from this public water system was required to be boiled prior to use for drinking water or human consumption purposes.

A strong thunderstorm will impact West Central Sabine Parish., East Central Nacogdoches, Eastern Shelby, Northern San Augustine And Northwestern Sabine Counties through 1pm cst.

At 12:22pm CST, Doppler radar was tracking a strong thunderstorm over Bland Lake, or 14 miles south of Center, moving northeast at 55 mph.

Hazard: Wind gusts of 50 to 55 mph and penny size hail.
