December 20, 2020 - State Highway 7 (SH7) east of Center was the scene of a single-vehicle crash Saturday, December 19, 2020 stemming from distracted driving.
When first responders arrived at the location, the vehicle involved was on it's side blocking one lane of traffic.
According to Texas Department of Public Safety State Trooper Keith Jones, at 12:50am a white 2012 Ford F-150 driven by a 17-year-old driver was westbound on SH7 just before CR 3120 when a text was received on his phone.

The driver reached for his phone resulting in driver inattention and struck a guardrail on the right side of the roadway. The truck then rolled and skid into the eastbound side of the roadway and came to rest facing east.
No injuries were reported resulting from the crash.
The driver was issued citations for failure to maintain a single lane and violation of restriction G - no cell phone under the age of 18.
Center Fire Department personnel and the Shelby County Sheriff's Department assisted during the crash investigation.

December 18, 2020 - The Texas COVID-19 Dashboard reports 10 new recoveries as of 5:25pm on Friday, December 18, 2020. There were 2 new confirmed cases reported and with adding the new cases and subtracting the estimated recoveries, the new active cases count is now 71.

December 17, 2020 - State Highway 87 at CR 4005 was the scene of a two-vehicle crash Monday, December 14, 2020.
According to Texas Department of Public Safety State Trooper Dustin Ramos, at 7:40pm Troopers were dispatched to State Highway 87 North at the intersection of CR 4005 in reference to a two-vehicle crash incident.
During the investigation, it was determined a maroon 2016 GMC Sierra pickup truck driven by Jennifer Hightower, 28, of Timpson CR 4005 failed to yield right of way when entering the roadway from a stop sign and pulled into the path of another vehicle.

The other vehicle in the crash was a silver 2002 Saturn driven by Douglas Hooper, 63, of Tenaha which was traveling northbound at the time and collided with the GMC when it entered the roadway.
The Saturn came to a halt in the middle of the roadway while the GMC came to rest on the opposite side of the roadway facing east.
Both drivers were transported by Timpson Volunteer Ambulance Service and Allegiance Ambulance for treatment of their minor injuries.
Hightower was issued a citation for fail to yield right of way at a stopped intersection.
Timpson Volunteer Fire Department assisted with traffic control until the crash scene was cleared.

New cases reported overnight were a total of 5 with 4 being confirmed cases and 1 probable case.

December 15, 2020 - Heads up! Crews in Shelby and Nacogdoches counties are pre-treating roadways today in the event of winter weather later tonight or early Wednesday morning. Motorists should reduce speed as crews apply the brine mixture to problem areas and elevated surfaces.
