September 29, 2015 -  The Shelby County Bass Anglers competed in the Texas Association of Bass Clubs State Championship last weekend on Lake Falcon Reservoir out of Zapata on the Texas/Mexico border. Each club team consisted of the top eight anglers from their organizations fishing 2 men per boat. The TABC championship consisted of twenty six 4 boat teams from all across the state fishing for two days total combined team weights, but only calculating the top three weights daily for each club.

Shelby County Bass Anglers led the pack after a day one combined weight of 57.82lbs put them in a lead over Universal City Bass Club with 53.81lbs. Llano Bass Club was a close third after day one with 52.61lbs.

Day two rolled in with different conditions after a weak cold front tried to pass through and wind directions changed. The bite was slowed down considerably, but the SCBA found a way to claim their first TABC Championship. The Shelby County Team of David Koonce/Cody Barton, Darren Wiggins/Lance Hughes, Glen/Josh Sowell, and Jacob Permenter/Jason Wells came in with a Day 2 weight of 47.97 securing the victory. Llano Bass Club made a strong showing on Day 2 with 50.6lbs of bass followed by the team of Universal City Bass Club with 44.02lbs.

Final Standings were SCBA with a first place two day total of 105.79lbs, Llano Bass Club with 99.15lbs for second, and Universal City Bass Club with 97.83lbs for third. The SCBA State Champion team is thankful for all the support from their families, sponsors, and community.

September 28, 2015 - Coach Ferguson,

Octavian Burrell has been nominated for the Mr. Texas Football Player of the Week award, presented by Dave Campbell’s Texas Football and Wells Fargo.

Octavian is one of ten nominees for the weekly statewide award, which is 100% decided by fan voting. The poll, located at www.texasfootball.com, closes Friday at noon. The recipe for success, we’ve found, is schools that utilize social media to spread the word to their students, faculty, staff, coaches, parents and anyone that supports their team and community.

Additionally, we’ve set up a Facebook page and Twitter feed that should help you spread the word virally through the community:

Editor's Note: The voting poll is located on the right side of page towards the bottom.

The game got off to a quick start with Center receiving the kick-off and driving the length of the field scoring on a 15-yard pass from Clay Snider to Jamarh Johnson. The extra point attempt by Raul Lara was good and Center takes the lead 7 to 0.

In the second quarter Jasper scores on a 12-yard run and gets the 2-point conversion to pull ahead of Center. Center answers with another touchdown on a 21-yard pass from Snider to Caleb Parks and once again Lara comes through with the extra point bringing the riders back in the lead. Going back and forth Jasper scores with 3:26 on the clock in the 2nd quarter with a 6-yard run. Jasper goes again for the 2-point conversion and its good making the score Center 14, Jasper 16. The riders continue to fight and score with 26 seconds left on the clock in the first half with a 2-yard run by Snider. The riders go for the 2-point conversion with a pass from Snider to Jamarh Johnson putting the team back in the lead at the end of the half, Center 22 over Jasper 16.
