January 30, 2016 - Center Varsity Boys earn a decisive victory Friday, January 29, 2016 against Henderson with a final score of 82 - 50.

January 28, 2016 - Carthage, Texas – The Panola College men’s basketball team defeated Tyler Junior College here Wednesday night, 74-63. With the win, the Ponies elevate their record to 17-5 and 8-3 in Region 14 play. “Again, our guys gave tremendous effort the second half of the ball game.” Head Coach Grant McMillan said. “Tyler was unbelievably long and our guys had to make some adjustments on the offensive end.” He stated.

Trading baskets early in the ball game, Tyler eventually took a nine point lead late in the first half. Panola closed the gap to six points, trailing 34-28 at intermission. Again, both teams traded baskets the first six minutes of the second half before the Ponies tied the ball game at 51 with 9:08 remaining in the second half. A steady offensive attack found Panola gain a 14 point lead before winning by the final tally.

Leading the way offensively for Panola was Charles Tucker (Lansing, Michigan) with 19 points, 10 of those coming from the free throw line. He also dished out 10 assists. Chan Williams-Bey (Hartford, Connecticut) scored in double figures adding 14 points. Also scoring in double figures was Tyonte Robertson (Cincinnati, Ohio) with 10. Tope Arikawe (Nigeria) swatted a season-high six blocks and Devyn Wilson (Brooklyn, New York) forced three steals in the victory. As a team, Panola held Tyler to 29 second half points and shot 80 percent from the free throw line.

Panola will next be in action this upcoming Saturday, January 30th when they hit the road to take on Navarro College. Tip-off is set for 4:00 PM in Corsicana, Texas.

January 28, 2016 - The Little Dribbler players (Timberwolves) traveled to Tatum TX to cheer for CHS basketball teams this week. The kids enjoyed watching the game and learned a lot from the experience.

The Timberwolves are coached by Jesse Ruiz and Travis Belin.

January 27, 2016 - Center Varsity Basketball Girls fell to Tatum on Tuesday night. The ending score was Center 27, Tatum 73.

Center Varsity points scored were: Nichols (15), Hightower (5), Hubbard (2), Rankin (2) and Lilly (1).

Tatum Varsity points scored were: Mitchell (22), Shans (16), Freeney (14), Gipson (11), Fite (4), Sammons (4) and Johnson (2).

January 25, 2016 - Timpson ISD Board of Trustees hired Kerry Therwhanger as the district’s athletic director and head football coach at a special called board meeting Thursday January 21, 2016.

Coach Therwhanger comes from Lovelady ISD where he has coached for the past 15 years and served as athletic director/head football and track coach since 2003. After becoming the AD, Lovelady has gone to the playoffs in football 10 out of the past 11 years. In 2005, Lovelady won the district championship to earn a place in the play-offs for only the second time in school history. Under Therwhanger’s leadership Lovelady football teams achieved:

    • 2015 – Football District Champions, State Semi-Finalist 14-1
    • 2014 – Football Area Finalist 9-3
    • 2013 – Football Regional Finalist
    • 2012 – Football Bi-District Finalist
    • 2011 – Football District Champions, State Quarterfinalist 11-2
    • 2010 – Football District Champions, Area Finalist
    • 2009 – Football District Champions, Regional Finalist 12-1
    • 2007 – Football Area Finalist
    • 2006 – Football State Semi Finalist 12-3

Coach Therwhanger’s head coaching record is 102 wins – 51 losses.

Also as athletic director at Lovelady, Coach Therwhanger’s athletic program achieved:

    • 22 District Champions
    • 21 other play off teams
    • Among the 40+ play off appearances the Lovelady teams had multiple bi-district and area champions
    • 5 regional finalists, 2 state semi-finalists
    • 2 regional championships in track and field and numerous regional and state qualifiers and state champions

Before going to Lovelady, Coach Therwhanger coached and taught in 2A Haskell CISD, 1A Perrin-Whitt CISD, 4-A Mineral Wells ISD and 1A Megargel ISD. Coach Therwhanger was chosen through the Old Coach network as the High School 2A Division 1 Coach of the Year.

Coach Therwhanger has 30 years of experience in education as a coach, athletic director and teacher. He has experience in many different sports at all levels from 1st to 12th grade and has coached with both male and female athletes.

Athletic Director Therwhanger has the ability to work well with others and a strong desire to make a difference in the lives of our young people and create success in every program.

Coach Therwhanger graduated from Angelo State University with a Bachelor of Science degree. He is certified to teach physical education and history. While attending Angelo State he was named NCAA Division II Track & Field All American 1983, 1984, 1985, 1986. He was also NCAA Division II National Champion in 1985 and 1986.

Timpson ISD Superintendent Dr. Mid Johnson said “Coach Therwhanger is a great fit for Timpson ISD because he has experience and the ability to motivate athletes, experience leading all athletic teams and a strong desire to build a winning program”. Athletic Director Therwhanger will start work in Timpson February 8. He and his wife Darlene have two children: a son Taylor, who plays football for East Texas Baptist University and a daughter, Kiera, who is a senior in high school. January 26, 2016 - The Varsity Lady Dragons defeated Martinsville Friday night in district play to advance to 3-2 in district. Though Martinsville kept a small lead in the first three quarters, the Lady Dragons finished strong. Shelbyville points scored were: J. Ross (2 pts), K. Vaughn (9 pts), J. Jenkins (19 pts), M. Taylor (2 pts) and J. Osby (3 pts). The game ended in favor of the dragons, 35-33.

January 26, 2016 - The Lady Dragon Middle School Red Team played their hearts out this weekend as they faced a tough competitor, San Augustine. The Lady Dragons showed their colors as they scored on their competition; J. Bolton (20 pts), K. Gates (7 pts), K. Murry (4 pts), L. Vickers (2 pts), A. Moore (2 pts) and T. Barnes (1 pt). Though the San Augustine girls held their lead in the first two quarters, the Red Team ended the game with a win; 37 - 27.

The Shelbyville Middle School White Team competed against San Augustine this weekend. Several girls managed to score on the tough San Augustine team, D. Rose (1 pt), R. Powell (1 pt) and N. Barnes (4 pts). The game ended in favor of San Augustine, 24 -6. Though the White Team did lose, they played hard.

January 24, 2016 - Center Boys Varsity Basketball team played against Rusk in a head to head game ending with Riders the victorious over the Eagles 65-60. Points scored were by J. Evans (15), O. Evans (13), D. McGee (9), K. Parks (8), T. Roland (6), A. Craig (5), J. Nash (4), S. Barnes (3), and D. Thedford (2).

The Center Roughriders will travel to Tatum on Tuesday, January 26th for their next conference game. Game time is at 7:30pm.

January 22, 2016 - The Joaquin JV/V Rams vs Timpson basketball games to be played tonight, January 22, 2016 at Timpson will be played at Joaquin ISD instead. Games will begin as scheduled at 4:30 at Joaquin ISD!
