Tenaha High School on Monday, February 13, 2023 –
The Tenaha Lady Tigers varsity basketball team won a UIL Bi-District Basketball Playoff over the visiting Broaddus Lady Bulldogs, by a 85-33 score on Monday. The win advances Tenaha on to the Area Round of the playoffs and they are awaiting scheduling for their next opponents.
The Lady Tigers never trailed and they had built a 12-5 points lead by the middle of the first stanza. THS led the Lady Bulldogs 24-9 by the end of the first quarter. They outpaced Broaddus 29-5 in the second period and led 53-14 at the midway break. Tenaha outscored Broaddus 16-4 in the third period on their way to ultimately sealing the 85-33 first-round win.
Tenaha is now 31-2 overall. They were led by sisters Kayanna Cox and Kaedynce Cox who each scored 24 points apiece. Teammate Christal Sparks had 12 points. Broaddus was led by Kaeli Yarbrough with 20 points.
The Lady Tigers came into the game as the top seed of District 23 2A and the Lady Bulldogs came in as fourth seed of District 24 2A.
Carthage Bulldogs Gymnasium on Friday, February 10, 2023 –
The Center Roughriders varsity basketball team never trailed at Carthage Friday and they took a 60-42 win over the Bulldogs. The game was Center’s District 17 4A finale and they now own at least a share of their conference title.
Center led Carthage 22-0 near the end of the first period but Bulldog Mikel Fields scored seconds before the buzzer which ended the quarter. Carthage outpaced Center 14 points to 11 in the second frame so the Roughriders carried a 33-16 lead into the locker room at the midway break. Center led 40-22 midway through the third period and they took a 47-30 lead into the final period.
The Roughriders were led by Cash Cross with 22 points, Mar Mar Evans with 16 and Kedrin Hinson scored 11 points. Carthage was led by Mikel Fields with 13.
The win gives Center a 25-4 overall season record and a 11-1 District 17 mark. The Roughriders will now wait to see if Chapel Hill High School (10-1) wins over the Carthage Bulldogs next Tuesday, February 14 at Carthage, if Chapel Hill should win a district playoff would be needed to break the tie.

The Lady Bears will face off with the West Sabine Lady Tigers Monday, February 13th at the Tenaha SEC. Tipoff is set for 6:00 PM. Let's pack the stands black and gold for our girls!

Tenaha Special Events Center on Tuesday, February 7, 2023 –
The Timpson Bears varsity basketball team has clinched the District 23 2A title with a road win over the Tenaha Tigers by a 68-52 score. Timpson is now at 10-1 in the conference with a single game remaining. Tenaha has two games left and they are fighting, with a 5-5 mark, to hold on to fourth place in order to gain a playoff berth.
Timpson jumped out to a 17-12 lead by the end of the first period and they led 32-24 at the halftime buzzer. By the end of the third stanza the Bears had built a 51-33 advantage on their way to the 68-52 win.
The Bears were led by Terry Bussey with 30 points. LT Washington added 14 points to the Bears scoresheet. The Tigers were led by JT Steadman with 16 points and Ja’Torion Moore with ten.
On Friday, February 10, 2023 Tenaha will host the Beckville Bearcats for a 7 p.m. tipoff at Tenaha Special Events Center.
Timpson travels to Garrison Bulldogs Gymnasium on Friday, February 10 for a 7 p.m. game.
Tenaha Special Events Center on Tuesday, February 7, 2023 –
The Tenaha Lady Tigers won their District 23 2A finale, at home on Tuesday, over the Timpson Lady Bears by a 77-39 score. The win put the Tenaha season mark at 30-2 overall and they went a perfect 12-0 in district play. They have won the District 23 crown and will await a place and time for their bi-district playoffs in one week.
The Lady Bears went 10-2 in District 23 and will enter the playoffs next week as the district’s second seed. Their overall record is at 26-9.
The Lady Tigers trailed 4-2 points at the midway point of the first period but led 11-9 at the end of the first quarter. They outpaced the Lady Bears 17-9 points during the second frame and Tenaha led 28-18 at the halftime intermission. By the end of the third stanza the game was getting out of reach with Tenaha leading 49-28 on their way to taking the 77-39 victory.
Tenaha was led by Kayanna Cox with 37 points. Teammate I’Tiyanna Dagley scored 14 and Kaedynce Cox sored 10 points. Timpson was led by McKenna Wynn with 9 points.
Before the game Seniors Makalie Black and Makaelen Reynolds were recognized by the home crowd and team on Tenaha ISD Senior Night.
February 7, 2023 - Tickets for the Center Boys and Girls Basketball games against Kilgore tonight, February 7th are available online only. Games start at 4:30pm at Kilgore High School, 711 North Longview Street, Kilgore, TX 75662.

February 2, 2023 - Malik Stotts signed his National Letter of Intent on Wednesday, February 1, 2023 to play football at Harding University. Malik was a 4 sport athlete at Joaquin where he play Football, Basketball, Baseball, and ran Track. Over the course of the last two seasons on the football field Malik accounted for over 3,000 yards of offense and 44 TDs.
Center High School Library on February 1, 2023 –
Three senior student athletes from Center High Schools signed college letter of intents to study and participate in football on scholarship. Kameryn Henry a guard for the Center Roughriders signed to play at Doane University in Crete Nebraska. The Tigers have hosted 1,180 All-Americans and won 198 conference championships and 3 national titles. Henry plans to study Kinesiology and be a coach someday. He stated that he enjoyed the closeness and the location of the school.
Da’Najahlon Gipson signed to play at North American University in Stafford, Texas. Mr. Gipson plans to study Kinesiology and work in the sports field in the future. He says he is looking forward to studying and playing receiver for the Stallions. He may be looking at contributing defensively for the football team and possibly, on the track program as well. The school’s mission statement is: North American University (NAU) is a private and non-profit institution offering bachelor’s and master’s degrees. The university is committed to teaching excellence and student centeredness. NAU strives to provide an environment promoting global cultural competency, personal growth and responsible citizenship.
Jamarion Evans will be studying Kinesiology at Lamar University for the Cardinals in Beaumont, Texas. Jamarion, known by some as Mar Mar, plays receiver for the Roughriders. He says his visit with the school gave him the best feeling and he was comfortable as it felt like “home.”
The three athletes signing letters were a big part of the turnaround the Center Roughriders achieved. The team and Coach Meek’s second year staff, was able to turn a 1-9 2021 season around to an 8-4 overall record and a 4-2 conference mark, trailing only the state champion Carthage Bulldogs (6-0) this season in District 8 4A.
Gary Bobcats Gymnasium on Tuesday, January 31, 2023 –
Timpson’s Lady Bears and their Bears varsity basketball teams each took wins at Gary Bobcats Gymnasium on Tuesday. The Lady Bears came away with a 50-15 win and the Bears beat the Bobcats by a 69-41 score.
The Lady Bears led 4-1 midway through the first period and they led 16-1 at the end of the first quarter. At halftime they held a 34-5 lead. They held a 45-15 advantage at the conclusion of the third stanza and coasted on to the 50-15 final score win. Timpson was led by D’Chelle Garner with 14 points. The Lady Bears are now 25-8 for the season and 9-1 in District 23 2A. They have two conference games remaining in regular season play and they will host Shelbyville on Friday, February 3, 2023. Tipoff is at 6 p.m.
The Bears Never trailed the Bobcats on Friday. They led Gary 6-2 midway through the first period and led 20-8 at the end of the first quarter. THS held a 36-25 lead at the midway point and 60-25 at the conclusion of the third stanza. The Bears were led by Jackson Campbell with 21 points and JJ Garner with 12. The Bobcats were led by led by Thomas Flowers with 20 points. The 69-41 win puts Timpson at 15-3 for the season and 8-1 in District 23 2A. They will host the Shelbyville Dragons at Bears Gymnasium on February 3, 2023 and the two teams will tip off at 7:30 p.m.
