December 15, 2015 - Center Christian Academy students and parents donated new toys, coats, hats and gloves to CASA. We would like to thank our CCA families for always being so generous and willing to help our school and community.

December 15, 2015 - The Center Police Department Ladies Auxiliary presented Santa Rides a Motorcycle with a $100 donation in memory of Edna Boykins. Boykins was an Associate Judge of the City of Center Municipal Court and passed away November of this year.

The Ladies Auxiliary also presented toys which were collected from Center Police Officer's families who brought them to the department's Christmas party. Lisa Albers and Amy Lindley presented the check and toys to Ed Roberts, founder of Santa Rides a Motorcycle.

Giving thanks for the donations, Roberts reminisced about Boykins saying she was a volunteer who helped deliver toys and she will be greatly missed.

December 15, 2015 - According to David Hailey, Store Manager of the Center Brookshire Brothers, Ronda Holloway was the winner of Blue Bell for a year at Brookshire Brothers in Center.

She was presented with a Brookshire Brothers money card on Tuesday, December 15, 2015 with which she can purchase her year supply of Blue Bell Ice Cream.

Blue Bell eating aficionados converged on Brookshire Brothers grocery stores in Center, and Joaquin first thing in the morning on Monday, December 14, 2015 to fulfill their long running fantasies of once again having Blue Bell in their freezers.

Brookshire Brothers in Center received their delivery of Blue Bell Ice Cream early in the morning and according to David Hailey, Store Manager, the sales began before the ice cream even hit the shelves. By 12-noon, the 1/2 gallon containers were almost gone.

Catherine Duvon (Pictured above) was the first Blue Bell Ice Cream customer of the day at the Center location on Monday, December 14, 2015.The Joaquin Volunteer Fire Department and DeSoto Parish Volunteer Fire Department out of Logansport were on scene to assist with crowd control and usher in the Blue Bell Ice Cream truck as it arrived. By 10:59am, the Blue Bell truck had arrived at the Joaquin location and by 1:22pm much of the ice cream had quickly moved off the shelves.

As of 1pm, the truck was being unloaded at B&B Grocery in Timpson.

Blue Bell ice cream may have evacuated the stores with much speed on Monday; however, anyone that has missed out should fret not, as Blue Bell will be returning to the stores all week to replenish Brookshire Brothers shelves.

December 14, 2015 - Pine Grove Nursing Center and staff would like to thank everyone from the community who helped us with donating toys to the Toy Drive for The Children’s Advocacy Center. The toys were picked up by The Children’s Advocacy Center on 12-11-15. Thanks to everyone that contributed!!!

December 14, 2015 - Jheri-Lynn McSwain, Shelby County Extension Agent-Family & Consumer Sciences for Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service and Center Garden Club member, presented the Center Garden Club's December program on "The Benefits of Garden Therapy for Seniors." Members were able to participate in a hands-on propagation workshop for new African violets, and then take their plants home.

December 11, 2015 - The Shelby County Attorney Toy Drive has collected hundreds of gifts for deserving children in the area. The gifts have been amassed and are ready to be distributed at the upcoming event held at the United Pentecostal Church of Center.

450 to 500 people are expected to attend the event which will include food and entertainment.

December 11, 2015 - The Pineywoods Board of Realtors made a donation to the Shelby County Outreach Ministries on Wednesday, December 9, 2015 at their location on Shelbyville Street. The board arrived with a large number of boxes filled with food.

Receiving the donation was Sherry Harding, Shelby County Outreach Ministries Executive Director, who expressed her appreciation to the board.

This is the first time for the Pineywoods Board of Realtors o have the food drive, as they have had other fundraisers in the past. Jodi Fountain, Secretary/Treasurer of the Pineywoods Board of Realtors, gave some background on the food drive.

"This is the first year for us to do the food drive, we also do scholarships at each one of the schools every year, and last year we did a fan drive," said Fountain. "We just kind of changed to [the food drive] because this need was greater."

According to Harding, the food which was donated has an estimated value of $1,000 which is a generous donation.

Door prizes were given away throughout the evening and winners were Susan Hairgrove, Ava Axen, Brenda Acuna, Colleen Doggett, Pam Phelps, and Michelle Askew.

Betty Mooney and Chelle Mooney showcased their newest inventory of food and snack items for attendees to sample. Chamber ambassadors greeted everyone and assisted with serving the refreshments.

Mooney’s is a specialty shop with a variety of unique items, custom designed tee shirts, one of a kind gifts and many ideas for Christmas presents.
