David's Daily Devotion for November 29

November 29, 2022 - Good Morning! It’s Tuesday, November 29.

I think I’ve found the perfect job. I want to work for The Weather Channel as a forecaster. But I would specialize in “long-range” forecasts - at least ten days in the future. Why would this be the perfect job? Because no one really expects these forecasts to be very accurate. And by the time that future day arrives, you’ve forgotten what the prediction even was. The perfect job.

David's Daily Devotion for November 22

November 22, 2022 - Good morning! It's Tuesday, November 22.

The Apostle Paul wrote just about half of the New Testament - 12 books out of 27 - 13 if you believe that he wrote Hebrews. I don't. I like to believe, as do some theologians, that Priscilla wrote Hebrews. Out of the 66 books in the Bible, it would be nice if at least one of them was written by a woman!

David's Daily Devotion for November 21

November 21, 2022 - Good Morning! It’s Monday, November 21.

Did you go to church yesterday? If you did, then I can guess what the theme of the service was - thankfulness! Our new interim pastor, Tim Watson, preached a sermon called “Thanksgiving in Three Tenses.” He reminded us that Jesus Christ has been faithful in the past. He’s faithful in the present. And He will be faithful in the future. It reminded me of Hebrews 13:8 - “Jesus Christ, the same yesterday, today, and forever.”

David's Daily Devotion for November 17

November 17, 2022 - Good Morning! It’s Thursday, November 17.

Part of my job at First Baptist Center is to choose songs for worship services. When I began my ministry career four decades ago, there was only one source for all those choices - the hymnal. In the 21st century our worship song sources are man y and are readily available. With more choice comes more convenience, but also more complications and challenge.

David's Daily Devotion for November 16

November 16, 2022 - Good Morning! It's Wednesday, November 16.

The earth was literally shaking early this morning at Cape Canaveral in South Florida. The mighty Artemis rocket, 100 meters tall, the most powerful in history, lifted off at the Kennedy Space Center. Artemis is costing taxpayers about 34 billion dollars, but NASA is excited to be on its way... BACK to the moon??? Didn't we do that over 50 years ago? Is it just me, or is getting Americans excited about this space program, a particularly hard sell?

David’s Daily Devotion for Nov. 14

November 14, 2022 - Good Morning!  It’s Monday, November 14.

In every church there are elder saints who serve as examples of faithful service.  They are mentors.  They are leaders.  They are a blessing.  Take a moment and remember people like that who have touched your life.

Marian Hooker was one of those people at my church.  And early this morning she went home to glory.  I had the honor to visit her in the hospital last night.  Her family and I sang hymns around her bedside.  She was ready to go.
