David's Daily Devotion for Nov. 8

November 8, 2022 - Good Morning!  It’s Tuesday, November 8.

It's Election Day.

And it was Election Day on November 8, 1864.  That was the day that Abraham Lincoln was elected to a second term as president, as president of a fractured, broken, divided country.  Over 700,000 soldiers had lost their lives in the Civil War, a conflict that would rage on for another six months.

David’s Daily Devotion for Nov. 7

November 7, 2022 - Good Morning!  It’s Monday, November 7.

I grew up in Houston in the 1960’s, so I grew up as a Houston Astros fan.  I was a fan even before they were called the Astros.  The team entered the league in 1962 as the Colt 45’s - a very cool name - but the name was changed in 1965, with the opening of the Astrodome.

David’s Daily Devotion for Nov. 4

November 4, 2022 - Good Morning!  It’s Friday, November 4.

Exactly one hundred years ago - on November 4, 1922 - British archeologist, Howard Carter, opened a tomb in Egypt, the burial place of the pharaoh named Tutankhamen.  Carter found over five thousand artifacts, including a solid gold coffin.  It remains the greatest archaeological discovery of all time.  A tremendous treasure.

David's Daily Devotion for November 2

November 2, 2022 - Good Morning! It's Wednesday, November 2.

In our 9am Broadcast Sunday School Class at First Baptist, Center we're in a series called "Building Our Lives on God's Word". Last Sunday, the focus was on studying God's Word and we were in the book of 2 Timothy, with its' famous verse 2:15 - "Study to show yourself to God as one approved, a worker who doesn't need to be ashamed, correctly teaching the Word of Truth".

David’s Daily Devotion for Nov. 1

November 1, 2022 - Good Morning! It’s Wednesday, November 1.

What a difference one little inch makes.

On this day, five centuries ago, the world got its first look at an iconic work of art called “The Creation of Adam”. But the artwork wasn’t hanging on the wall of a gallery - it was 66 feet up on the ceiling of a church - the Sistine Chapel. When a pope dies, cardinals from around the world gather in this worship room to decide on the new one. And when they look heavenward, they see this creation by Michelangelo.

David's Daily Devotion for October 28

October 28, 2022 - Good Morning! It's Friday, October 28.

This past Wednesday, my church met in our Family Life Center for a "Fall Family Fellowship". There was a chili cook-off, a costume contest, a pumpkin carving competition, and a fine time was had by one and all. Our church is going through a time of transition right now - we're without a pastor. And in times of transition, times of change, family becomes especially important. When we face challenges, we reach out to family, to those we love - and they reach back to us.

David's Daily Devotion for October 27

October 27, 2022 - Good Morning! It’s Thursday, October 27.

This Sunday, we’ll welcome the Praise Team from East Texas Baptist University to our church. ETBU is one of eight Baptist colleges in our state. These include Baylor in Waco, Dallas Baptist, Houston Baptist, Wayland in Plainview, Hardin-Simmons in Abilene, Howard Payne in Brownwood, and Mary Hardin-Baylor in Belton.

David’s Daily Devotion for Oct. 26

October 26, 2022 - Good Morning!  It’s Wednesday, October 26.

On this day, in 1901, a bank robbery occurred in Paris, France. As they exited the bank, the thieves didn’t run away on foot, or ride off on horses. They made their escape in a new-dangled invention called an automobile. They got away in the very first “getaway car”!

So, since a car was used in a criminal act, does that make a car evil? Of course not. A thing is just a thing. It’s all in the way one chooses to use it that makes the difference. And the same thing can be true . . . with the Bible.
