David's Daily Devotion for December 14

December 14, 2022 - Good Morning! It’s Wednesday, December 14.

Have you ever wondered why God created angels? What is their purpose? How are they different from us? I recommend Billy Graham’s book “Angels”. It answers questions like these and is a fascinating read. He reminds us that, above all else, angels were created to do God’s will. The word angel means “messenger” and they certainly serve that purpose in the Christmas story as they share the good tidings with Mary, Joseph, and the shepherds.

David's Daily Devotion for December 8

December 8, 2022 - Good Morning! It’s Thursday, December 8.

There are some Christmas songs that really don't have anything to do with Christmas. "Jingle Bells" doesn't mention gifts or Santa or Rudolph - it's just a song about winter fun - but what would Christmas be without it! "Joy to the World" isn't inspired by Luke Chapter Two, it's based on the 98th Psalm - but what would Christmas be without it! This morning we look at a song that we sing all year round, but that most people don't realize is a Christmas song.

David's Daily Devotion for December 7

December 7, 2022 - Good Morning! It’s Wednesday, December 7.

My daughter was 27 when she got married, my wife was 20 when we tied the knot, and my mom wed my dad at the tender young age of 17. The history of my family parallels the changes in our culture regarding average marriage ages and leads us to the Christmas question - how old was Mary when she gave birth to Jesus?

David's Daily Devotion for December 6

December 6, 2022 - Good Morning! It’s Tuesday, December 6.

The Wise Men, the Magi, are only mentioned in the 2nd chapter of Matthew. The verse, perhaps, that sums up who they were and what they did is Matthew 2:11 -

When they were come into the house, they saw the young child with Mary his mother, and they fell down and worshipped him; and when they had opened their treasures, they presented unto him gifts; gold, frankincense, and myrrh.

David's Daily Devotion for December 2

December 2, 2022 - Good Morning! It’s Friday, December 2.

On this day in 1867, the British author Charles Dickens read his work in America for the very first time. The greatest writer of the Victorian era stepped onto the stage of Steinway Hall in New York City, and read from one of his most famous books - A Christmas Carol. Here are a few quotes from that classic.

*I will honor Christmas in my heart, and try to keep it all the year long.
