October 11, 2022 - Good Morning! It's Tuesday, October 11.
In the Bible there are stories of at least ten people who were raised from the dead. The Old Testament prophet Elijah raised one of them, as did the prophet Elisha. In the New Testament Peter brought Tabitha back to life and Paul gave life back to Eutychus. But the majority of those ten lucky people were raised by Jesus. Can you name them? Most people can only name one. And He is the subject of today's devotional... Lazarus.
October 10, 2022 - Good Morning! It’s Monday, October 10.
These daily devotions began in March of 2020, when my church shut down for the pandemic. I began to send these little thoughts to members of our Worship Ministry, just to stay connected. That was two and a half years ago, 30 months, 130 weeks... over 600 little devotions.
October 7, 2022 - Good Morning! It’s Friday, October 7.
Our annual county fall festival started yesterday. I had the blessing to be in our church ice-cream booth as the festivities began and I’ll be there when everything ends on Saturday night. We’re enjoying perfect weather, our remodeled town square looks beautiful, and all signs point to the biggest and best “Poultry Fest” ever!
October 6, 2022 - Good Morning! It’s Thursday, October 6.
Today, here in Shelby County, Texas, we begin our annual festival celebrating all things chicken - Poultry Fest! And, this morning, we look at festivals from the Bible.
There are three major Jewish festivals each year. The most famous one is Passover. Jesus attended this festival the last week of His life.
October 5, 2022 - Good Morning! It's Wednesday, October 5.
What was your favorite Bible story as a child? Was it "Jonah and the Whale"? Or "Daniel in the Lion's Den"? Maybe it was "Noah and the Ark.” My favorite, for obvious reasons, was always “David and Goliath.”
October 4, 2022 - Good Morning! It’s Tuesday, October 4.
On this day, in 1537, the very first English Bible was published. It was called the “Matthew Bible”. That’s not because of the Gospel of Matthew, but because the translator’s name was Thomas Matthew. Except, there wasn’t a translator named Thomas Matthew. Thomas Matthew didn’t exist. So, why the fake name? The answer to that question makes this Bible a very special book indeed.
October 3, 2022 - Bro. David's under the weather today, so we're reprinting a devotional that originally went out in April of 2021...
Today's devotion is all about 3:16. There are 49 "3:16" verses in the Bible. Why aren't there 66 - one for every Bible book? Well, some books, like Psalms, have a 3rd chapter with less than 16 verses, and other books, like Jude, don't have a 3rd chapter at all.
September 30, 2022 - Good Morning! It’s Friday, September 30.
On September 30, 1770, George Whitefield died in Massachusetts at the age of 55. He was short, small, and cross-eyed. And he was, very possibly, the greatest preacher who has ever lived.
