February 23, 2021 - The Timpson City Council was holding a closed executive session meeting Tuesday, February 23, to discuss the fate of the city’s police department.
Council members were meeting with an attorney representing the city and the items listed on the agenda included:
The operation, budget, and potential closure of the City of Timpson Police Department. As well as possible action concerning a reduction in force of the remaining staff at the City of Timpson Police Department including the Chief of Police.
February 23, 2021 - VFW Post 8904 and Auxiliary members gathered at the Shelby County Veterans Memorial located at the Historic Shelby County Courthouse on the Center square February 22, 2021 in honor of the USS Maine and its crew.
February 22, 2021 - The Tenaha City Council held a meeting February 8, 2021 to revisit items previously discussed in the January 25, 2021 meeting as several items weren't appropriately voted on following council motions.
Both meetings included lengthy executive sessions. Following the February 8 executive session, the council voted to accept resignations of the Chief of Police Bobby Linder and Captain William Denison.
A motion carried to accept the resignations of both officers, and left the department with one officer, Chris Benton.
February 21, 2021 - The Shelby County Emergency Management Office and other county officials distributed drinking water and MRE (meals ready to eat) packages at the courthouse on Friday, February 19, 2021.
February 17, 2021 - Shelby County Today has received multiple reports of carports and structures collapsing due to the weight of ice and snow.
An alternate location to park vehicles may need to be taken into consideration during this time, and if the stability of any structure is questionable, stay out from underneath.
To avoid injury, people should also avoid entering structures which may have partially collapsed.
February 14, 2021 - Tenaha ISD announces due to weather conditions they will not have in-person classes Monday.
According to Tenaha ISD social media, Tenaha ISD will be on "Virtual/Remote Instruction" Monday, February 15, 2021. Parents should prepare for students to remain on Remote Instruction all week long; however, that call will be made a the weather forecast continues to develop.
February 14, 2021 - Shelby County is experiencing a freezing weather event which is affecting all of the roadways in the area Sunday, February 14, 2021.
February 10, 2021 - The Shelby County Commissioners agreed to an opioid abatement fund council settlement funds in the amount of $109,925 during their meeting February 10, 2021.
Commissioners considered a resolution in support of State of Texas and Texas Political Subdivision’s Opioid Abatement Fund Council and Settlement Allocation term sheet.
The attorneys pursuing this claim have presented to the commissioners court in the past and Judge Harbison explained what the resolution is for and the resulting funds the county should receive.
February 9, 2021 - The Shelby County Commissioners were presented with information about the USDA Emergency Watershed Assistance Program during their meeting held January 27, 2021.
Janet Ritter, representing USDA, addressed the commissioners about the USDA Emergency Watershed Assistance Program by the Natural Resources Conservation Service regarding projects in the county.
Ritter presented the commissioners with a list of several locations around the county they agree are eligible for Emergency Watershed Protection funds.
