Living with Chronic Pain Workshop

March 30, 2023 - Are you, or someone you know, living with constant pain? An online Workshop on Living with Chronic Pain is being offered at no charge by the Area Agency on Aging. The class will be held via Zoom from 10:00 to 12:30 on Wednesdays from April 5 – May 10. Workshop topics include: Fatigue & Getting a Good Night’s Sleep, Healthy Eating for Pain, and The Mind-Body Connection & Distraction. Participants will receive a free resource book, ‘Living a Healthy Life with Chronic Pain’, a $26 value.

DETCOG Board to Hold March Meeting in San Jacinto County

March 3, 2023 - Deep East Texas Council of Governments (DETCOG) Board of Directors will hold their regular monthly meeting Thursday, March 23, 2023, at the San Jacinto County Shelter located at 255 Live Oak in Coldspring, Texas. A Luncheon will be served at noon, and the Board meeting will be held immediately afterward.

Welcoming members and guests to San Jacinto County will be San Jacinto County Judge Fritz Faulkner, Coldspring Mayor John Benestante, and San Jacinto County Commissioners Laddie McAnally, Donnie Marrs, David Brandon, and Mark Nettuno.

DETCOG Submits Challenges to Texas Broadband Map

March 1, 2023 – The Deep East Texas Council of Governments has filed the required evidence with the Texas Broadband Development Office to challenge the accuracy of the new State Broadband Map. The challenge asserts that 46 census blocks in the 11-county DETCOG Region have significantly slower internet speeds than reported on the initial Texas Broadband Development Map. The state map will be used in determining how state and federal Broadband Internet Funds will be distributed around the state.

DETCOG Accepting Pre-Applications for Rental Assistance Waiting List Lottery

February 27, 2023 – The Deep East Texas Regional Housing Authority (DETRHA) will open its waiting list lottery for the Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher Program and begin accepting pre-applications on Wednesday, March 1, 2023 at 12:00 a.m. CT through Friday, March 31, 2023 at 11:59 p.m. CT. Pre-applications will be accepted online at https://www.waitlistcheck.com/TX2875 and will NOT be accepted at the Housing Authority's office, nor by fax or mail.

Ombudsman Are Critical Part of Nursing Home Care

February 15, 2023 - For many nursing home residents, someone to talk to is all they need. An ombudsman, a member of a group of volunteer patient advocates who work with nursing home residents, is just that someone.

Deep East Texas Ombudsmen work with 34 nursing facilities throughout the Deep East Texas Region and 14 assisted living facilities. Each volunteer is paired with a facility and visits that facility two hours every week.
